Role:
The Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in supporting the Store Manager to ensure smooth, efficient store operations. This position is responsible for driving sales, delivering outstanding customer service, and supporting daily activities that align with business goals. The Assistant Manager leads by example, motivates the team, fosters a positive work environment, and helps uphold company standards in service, safety, and presentation. This role also serves as a liaison between employees, customers, and company leadership, promoting Space Age Fuel's values and image within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the Store Manager in executing operational strategies to meet company objectives. Lead and motivate team members to deliver excellent customer service and achieve sales targets. Support training and development of store employees, including onboarding and ongoing coaching. Uphold company policies, procedures, and expectations through example and daily guidance. Promote teamwork and high morale through clear communication and supportive leadership. Maintain accurate cash handling, including tills, change orders, and daily reconciliation. Accept and verify deliveries, manage stock levels, and maintain accurate inventory records. Perform administrative tasks including morning paperwork and basic Excel reporting. Foster a clean, safe, and welcoming store environment for customers and employees. Operate the register and assist with fuel pumping when needed. Represent Space Age Fuel positively both inside the store and in the surrounding community. Participate in store meetings and communicate ideas or solutions for improvement. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. At least 2 years of experience in retail, with 1 year in a supervisory or leadership position. Strong understanding of retail operations, customer service, and sales principles. Basic proficiency with point-of-sale (POS) systems and Microsoft Office (especially Excel). Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field. Experience with inventory management systems and retail analytics tools. Training or certification in leadership or retail management. Familiarity with merchandising and visual display standards.
Skills:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong leadership and coaching abilities. Customer-first mindset with problem-solving skills. Analytical skills to interpret sales data and operational reports. Ability to work independently and make sound decisions. Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and work in varied indoor/outdoor conditions. Comfortable working with fuel products, cleaning agents, and in a fast-paced environment. Flexible schedule availability, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
