Job Description

General Manager Staffing & Business Development The Opportunity We are an established, entrepreneurial staffing company seeking a hands-on General Manager / President to lead the next stage of our growth. This is not a desk-bound executive position . We are looking for a proven business developer and people leader who still enjoys the hunt: opening doors, getting past gatekeepers, making cold calls, visiting prospects, building relationships, asking for the business, and closing deals. The right person will combine the instincts of a successful B2B salesperson with the maturity and leadership ability to run an organization. You will have responsibility for growing revenue, leading and developing the team, strengthening our sales culture, and ultimately taking day-to-day ownership of the business. Our existing operations team has significant staffing expertise and experience. We are looking for a leader who can complement that strength by bringing exceptional sales leadership, business development, accountability, and people development to the organization. What You'll Be Responsible ForDrive Revenue Growth This position requires personal selling.
You will:
Personally prospect and develop new business Build relationships with decision-makers in HR, operations, manufacturing, distribution, and other target industries Cold call, network, walk into prospective customers, ask for introductions, and create opportunities Develop strategic target-account plans Conduct discovery meetings and customer presentations Negotiate pricing and business terms Close new accounts Expand relationships within existing customers Build and maintain a healthy personal sales pipeline Work alongside the sales team in the field rather than managing exclusively from the office You should genuinely enjoy winning business. Lead and Develop the Sales Team We don't just need someone who can sell. We need someone who can make other people better at selling.
You will:
Establish clear expectations and accountability for sales activity and results Conduct regular pipeline and opportunity reviews Coach salespeople through difficult accounts and stalled opportunities Make joint customer calls and prospect visits Help salespeople improve prospecting, discovery, presentations, negotiation, and closing Identify performance problems early and address them directly Recruit and develop additional sales talent as the business grows Build a sales organization capable of producing consistent growth without depending on one individual Lead the Organization As General Manager, you will ultimately be accountable for the performance of the entire business.
You will:
Lead, coach, and develop employees across the organization Establish a culture of accountability, urgency, teamwork, and professionalism Address conflict directly and constructively Develop future leaders rather than requiring employees to simply imitate your approach Establish clear responsibilities and expectations throughout the organization Make difficult personnel and business decisions when necessary Work closely with an experienced Director of Operations and leverage the knowledge and capabilities of the existing team Create an environment where talented people can perform, develop, and advance Business Leadership You will operate the company as a business owner would.
Responsibilities include:
Revenue and gross-profit growth Budgeting and forecasting Expense management Labor and productivity management Customer profitability Pricing discipline Customer concentration management Operational performance Hiring and organizational planning Identifying opportunities to improve profitability and enterprise value You don't need to personally perform every function in the company. You do need to understand the numbers, ask the right questions, hold people accountable, and take responsibility for results. Who We're Looking For The ideal candidate has approximately 10+ years of progressive B2B sales and leadership experience , including meaningful experience personally developing new business. We are particularly interested in candidates who have progressed through roles such as: Outside Sales Representative → Sales Manager → Branch Manager / Regional Manager / General Manager / Sales Director We care considerably more about demonstrated results than titles. Strong candidates will be able to show examples of: Building a territory or book of business Winning difficult new accounts Taking business away from established competitors Growing revenue and gross profit Developing successful salespeople Building or rebuilding a sales team Managing underperformance Leading through organizational change Taking ownership of financial results Developing employees into larger roles Industry Experience Staffing industry experience is valuable but not required. We are open to accomplished leaders from competitive B2B industries where success requires persistent prospecting, relationship development, differentiation, and closing.
Relevant backgrounds could include:
Staffing and recruiting Industrial services Manufacturing Printing and packaging Industrial distribution Logistics and transportation Payroll, HCM, or PEO services Facility and commercial services Other competitive B2B service industries Candidates without staffing experience must demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn the industry quickly and work collaboratively with experienced staffing professionals. What Will Not Work Here This position is probably not right for someone who: Has moved completely away from personal selling Prefers managing through reports, dashboards, and meetings Depends primarily on inbound leads Is uncomfortable cold calling or walking into a prospective customer Believes prospecting is something junior salespeople should do Has managed salespeople but cannot demonstrate developing them Avoids difficult personnel conversations Needs to be the smartest person in the room Is threatened by experienced employees with deep institutional knowledge Confuses authority with leadership Wants an established organization to maintain rather than a business to grow The Person Who Will Thrive Here You are competitive without needing to dominate people. You have high confidence and low ego. You can walk into a prospect that has no interest in changing vendors and find a way to start a conversation. You can also sit across from an employee who is struggling and coach that person toward better performance. You respect experienced people and seek to learn from them, but you are comfortable making the final decision when responsibility rests with you. You don't need employees to do everything the way you would do it. You develop people. You hold people accountable. You remain steady when situations become difficult. And when the pipeline isn't where it needs to be, your instinct isn't to schedule another meeting. Your instinct is to go sell. What Success Looks Like During the first year, the successful candidate will be expected to: Build credibility and trust with the existing team Develop a deep understanding of the company's customers, operations, and economics Personally establish a meaningful new-business pipeline Win new customers Implement consistent sales-management disciplines Improve sales-team effectiveness and accountability Strengthen communication and organizational leadership Develop a clear operating rhythm for the business Assume increasing responsibility for day-to-day company leadership Build an organization capable of sustainable growth without dependence on the owner Why This Opportunity Is Different This is an opportunity for someone who has spent years producing results for other organizations and is ready to have a much larger impact on an entrepreneurial business. You will not be joining a large corporation where decisions require layers of approval. You will have the opportunity to influence sales strategy, talent, culture, customer development, operations, and the financial performance of the entire company. There is already a foundation in place. We're looking for the person who can help build what comes next. Base salary + monthly bonus incentive
