PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Area Director oversees daily operations of an assigned geographic cluster of Clubs, with primary responsibility for program quality, staff supervision and development, grant-funded program execution and compliance, facilities management, community relations, membership administration, and budget oversight. The Area Director ensures consistency of program delivery, data integrity, and reporting across all assigned sites, and advises and supports Unit Directors in the areas of personnel, facilities, budget, volunteers, and programming.
KEY ROLES
(Essential Job Responsibilities) Leadership & Youth Development Establish and sustain programs, activities, and services across assigned Clubs that prepare youth for success and create environments that drive BGCA Youth Development Outcomes. Ensure a healthy, safe, and emotionally supportive environment for members and staff, including adherence to BGCA safety standards and mandatory reporter obligations. Model and reinforce a culture of accountability, staff wellbeing, and retention across assigned sites. Program Quality & Strategic Planning Implement and evaluate unit programs and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs. Ensure consistent program delivery, reporting cadence, and compliance practices across all assigned Clubs. Compile regular reports reflecting activities, attendance, and participation. Grant Compliance, Data & Outcomes Ensure assigned Clubs execute grant-funded programming to fidelity, including timely data entry, monthly and quarterly reporting, pre/post assessment administration, and portal submissions across active grants (including but not limited to DCF, DJJ, CFAB, SAI, Boeing Future U, and Project Learn). Maintain accurate, timely member data and outcome measurement through ClubHub, NYOI, and other required reporting systems. Coordinate with the CEO and grants lead to flag risks, close reporting gaps, and ensure documentation is audit-ready at all times. Resource Management Manage financial, volunteer, and in-kind resources, assisting in the development of annual budgets and controlling expenditures against budget. Ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the physical properties and equipment of assigned Clubs, including use of facilities by outside groups. Recruit, supervise, develop, and retain Club staff and volunteers. Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-one check-ins. Partnership Development Develop and maintain partnerships with parents, schools, public partners, law enforcement, community leaders, and funders to strengthen Club operations and community presence. Marketing & Public Relations Develop and maintain public relations activities that increase the visibility of programs, services, and activities within assigned Clubs and the broader community.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Purchase or approve purchase of supplies and equipment within budget authority. Work with staff on special events and cross-departmental programming. Exercise authority in matters relating to members, utilizing the organization's guidance and discipline plan. Contribute to fund development efforts in coordination with the CEO and development staff. Assume other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS
Internal:
Maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives, and standards; discuss issues; and share information. Maintains regular contact with executive leadership and administrative staff, and with members as needed for guidance and support.
External:
Maintains contact with community partners, schools, funders, parents, and other stakeholders to support program delivery, resolve issues, and represent the Club.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. Minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in youth development, education, or human services. Boys & Girls Club experience strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision, facilities management, and recruitment and retention of key staff. Working knowledge of grant compliance, reporting, and outcome measurement in a nonprofit or youth-serving context. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, youth, families, funders, and community partners. Working knowledge of budget preparation, control, and management. Demonstrated ability working with young people, parents, and community leaders, including experience managing behavioral and disciplinary situations. Technology fluency, including experience with youth data platforms (ClubHub or equivalent), grant reporting portals, and collaborative work tools such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Forms, and project management platforms. Ability to pass a Level 2 background screening and comply with all child safety, mandatory reporter, and BGCA safety standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position requires driving between assigned Club sites. Requires supervision of youth in activities including sports and games. May require moderate lifting, climbing stairs, standing for extended periods, and working at a computer for moderate periods of time.
