JOB SUMMARY
The Grants & Fundraising Specialist plays a vital role in sustaining and advancing Safe Haven's mission by securing the financial resources necessary to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. While this position is not client-facing, its impact is directly felt through the continuation and growth of services that ensure safety, support, and advocacy for those in need in our community. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, this role executes the organization's grant writing, grant management, and fundraising efforts. The Specialist is responsible for identifying funding opportunities, developing compelling grant proposals, ensuring compliance with funder requirements, and supporting fundraising initiatives that generate critical revenue. This position also coordinates and maintains Safe Haven's volunteer program, fostering strong relationships with volunteers who provide meaningful support across fundraising efforts and program operations. This role requires a high level of organization, initiative, and attention to detail, along with the ability to translate program impact into funding opportunities that sustain and strengthen Safe Haven's work.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Writing & Funding Development Research, identify, and evaluate grant funding opportunities that align with Safe Haven's mission and services Write, prepare, and submit grant applications in partnership with the Executive Director Develop compelling narratives that clearly communicate program impact, needs, and outcomes Maintain a grant calendar to track deadlines, submissions, and reporting requirements Grant Management & Reporting Manage all grant reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with funder expectations Compile, analyze, and present program data, outcomes, and financial information for grant reports Maintain organized and accurate records of all grant activity, including awards, reporting schedules, and funding outcomes Fundraising & Revenue Support Support the planning and implementation of fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and events Assist with sponsorship outreach, donor engagement, and funding opportunities tied to fundraising efforts Identify opportunities to strengthen and expand funding streams through community and donor engagement
- Manage donor records within the organization's donor management system, including accurate entry of donations and ongoing database maintenance
- Track and monitor donor activity and giving history to support fundraising efforts and relationship building
- Prepare and send donor acknowledgements in a timely and professional manner Volunteer Coordination & Engagement Maintain and manage the volunteer database, including tracking, communication, and engagement Recruit, onboard, and coordinate volunteers to support fundraising events, community outreach, and program needs Foster strong, ongoing relationships with volunteers to support long-term engagement and organizational impact Collaboration & Communication Work closely with the Executive Director to align funding strategies with organizational priorities Collaborate with staff to gather necessary program data, outcomes, and impact stories for funding purposes Promote fundraising efforts, volunteer opportunities, and organizational updates through social media and communication platforms General Responsibilities Maintain clear, accurate, and timely documentation and communication Work cooperatively with staff and volunteers toward fulfilling organizational goals Use positive and effective interpersonal communication skills Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High school graduate with a minimum of two years of demonstrated experience in nonprofit grant writing, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience in fundraising, grant management, or nonprofit funding strategies is strongly preferred. Understanding of family violence, intimate partner violence, child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault issues and/or crisis management experience is desired. Experience using AI tools to support writing, research, and efficiency in grant development and reporting. Strong ability to write clearly, persuasively, and accurately for grant proposals and reports.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is primarily performed in a secured residential facility setting with communal areas, as well as in an office setting. Work requires the ability to ascend or descend stairs, as well as the agility to move about and position self efficiently to perform physical tasks and address emergency situations. Position requires the ability to monitor and observe the activities of clients, and children of clients, within the facility. Regularly exposed to cleaning products, chemicals and solvents. May work in outdoor weather conditions. Routinely requires the ability to move or transport supplies or equipment weighing up to 30 pounds unassisted, while ascending or descending stairs.
