Job Description

Job Title:
Shipping and Receiving Worker Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Worker plays a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely movement of goods in and out of the facility. This position focuses on inspecting incoming shipments, preparing and packaging outgoing orders, maintaining precise inventory records using digital systems, and collaborating closely with internal teams, vendors, and carriers to support smooth operations and high levels of customer satisfaction. Responsibilities Receive, inspect, and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and accompanying documentation. Prepare, package, and label outgoing shipments accurately, ensuring all required documentation is complete and correct. Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently to load, unload, and move materials. Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records using digital inventory control systems. Communicate promptly and professionally with vendors, carriers, and internal teams to resolve shipment discrepancies or issues. Ensure the shipping and receiving area remains clean, organized, and compliant with established safety standards. Support warehouse inventory control by monitoring stock levels and reporting any shortages or discrepancies. Follow established procedures and safety protocols for all shipping, receiving, and material-handling activities. Collaborate with other departments to prioritize shipments and support production and customer delivery timelines. Essential Skills Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving operations in a warehouse or distribution environment. Proficiency in operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and efficiently. Knowledge of inventory control practices and warehouse inventory processes. Ability to maintain accurate inventory records using digital systems or warehouse management tools. Strong attention to detail when verifying incoming shipments and preparing outgoing orders. Effective communication skills for interacting with vendors, carriers, and internal teams. Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, hands-on environment with daily variety. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with shipping and receiving documentation, including packing lists, labels, and purchase orders. Familiarity with climate-controlled warehouse environments and modern material-handling equipment. Comfort working collaboratively in a team-oriented, cross-departmental environment. Willingness to work a 1st shift schedule and occasional Saturdays as needed. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role follows a 1st shift schedule, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with some Saturdays from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. as needed. The work is fast-paced and hands-on, offering daily variety and regular interaction with different teams. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Machesney Park, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
