Inventory Specialist

  • $22/hr Job Description This role focuses on accurately selecting, packaging, and preparing inventory for shipment using a computer-based inventory system.
You will work at a dedicated computer station, follow system-generated pick lists, and handle small, delicate components that require careful packaging, including the use of ice packs and dry ice. The position combines inventory control, shipping and receiving, and hands-on packaging in a fast-paced biotech environment. Responsibilities Operate a computer station to review system-generated pick lists and identify items that need to be retrieved. Select inventory accurately from storage locations based on instructions from the ERP/MRP system. Verify picked items using visual inspection procedures to ensure accuracy and quality before packaging. Package small parts and handheld boxes with a high level of manual dexterity to prevent damage during transit. Prepare products for shipment using appropriate materials, including ice packs and dry ice, following established procedures. Label, organize, and stage packaged orders for carrier pickup, including FedEx, by required deadlines. Support inventory control activities by maintaining accurate stock handling and documenting transactions in the system. Assist with shipping and receiving tasks as needed to ensure timely order fulfillment. Follow all safety, handling, and packaging protocols, particularly when working with dry ice and cold-chain materials. Collaborate with team members and communicate any inventory discrepancies or issues identified during picking or packaging. Essential Skills Experience with inventory control, inventory fulfillment, or inventory stock management. Hands-on experience in a biotech or similar environment handling small parts and components. Proficiency with ERP or MRP systems to manage and track inventory transactions. Ability to perform all work on a computer, including navigating inventory and shipping systems. Strong manual dexterity to package very small parts and handheld boxes accurately and safely. Experience with packaging and preparing products for shipment, including shipping and receiving activities. Ability to package products using ice packs and dry ice according to established procedures. Strong attention to detail and visual inspection skills to verify item accuracy before shipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience in a fast-paced fulfillment or distribution environment. Familiarity with carrier processes, including preparing shipments for FedEx pickup. Comfort working with cold-chain packaging materials such as ice packs and dry ice. Ability to learn and follow detailed standard operating procedures for inventory and packaging. Why Work Here? You will work at a dedicated computer station within a biotech fulfillment environment, using ERP/MRP systems and handling small components that require careful packaging, including the use of ice packs and dry ice for shipments. The setting emphasizes accuracy, safety, and timely order processing while maintaining a predictable and balanced workday. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $22.00
