Job Description

Title Inventory Technician Location City of Griffin Description The individual in this position orders, tracks & maintains parts and supply inventory to provide quality service for city vehicles and equipment. Receives city surplus vehicles and equipment, prepares, tracks and readies inventory for disposal, repurpose, or sale, in accordance with city policies and guidelines.
Essential duties include:
Maintains parts and supply inventory; reorders stock as needed. Orders parts as requested by mechanics. Pulls parts and supplies from stock, issues to appropriate personnel, and bills proper work order. Reviews invoices to submit for payment. Stocks parts and supplies. Enters information related to the receipt of stock. Enters work order and vehicle information. Conduct random inventory spot-checks. Completes Quarterly and annual physical inventory. Compiles month-end inventory reports. Enters information related to surplus vehicles for auction. Files completed repair orders. Communicates with vendors and shop staff to obtain pricing, placing orders, and problem resolution. Performs related duties. Position Requirements Approximately 80% of the work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in a vehicle repair shop. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, and irritating chemicals. Work may be performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. Employee must have the visual ability to distinguish between shades of colors, detect dangerous obstacles, other vehicles or equipment, and pedestrians. The work involves pushing, pulling, manipulating, and/or lifting or carrying loads or objects of up to 100 pounds unassisted. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment operation and maintenance principles. Knowledge of vehicle and equipment diagnosis and repair principles. Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions. Must have basic typing and computing skills including usage of communications, inventory, and work order systems. Must be proficient in the use of computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email. Must have the ability to multi-task multiple projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines. Must be self-motivated, independent and reliable with a strong work ethic. Ability to learn city and department policies including purchasing. Must have good judgement, diplomacy and tact with the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations remaining helpful and pleasant at all times. Must have clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interpret and relay information. Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and build good working relationships with others. Basic typing and computing skills including usage of communications, inventory, and work order systems. Ability to multi-task multiple projects or issues simultaneously and meet firm deadlines. High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of one year of related experience.
