Inventory Specialist Job Description The Inventory Specialist works in the kitting area of a warehouse and ensures that physical inventory accurately matches system records. This role combines analytical, computer-based work with hands-on inventory verification using material handling equipment such as stand-up forklifts and electric carts. Approximately 70% of the time is spent working on a computer in various inventory and ERP systems, 20% operating material movement equipment, and 10% walking the facility to count, locate, and validate parts. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving inventory issues, working with data, and taking ownership of inventory accuracy across the facility. Responsibilities Work in the kitting area of the warehouse to support accurate inventory management and material availability. Use computer systems daily, including web-based and database tracking tools, ERP systems, SAP, and order tracking systems, to manage and monitor inventory. Operate stand-up forklifts, electric carts, and other material movement equipment to access racks and storage locations throughout the warehouse. Print inventory reports and pick lists generated through internal systems, then perform physical counts and location checks to verify accuracy. Ensure that physical inventory matches system records by regularly auditing counts and reconciling discrepancies. Take ownership of assigned inventory counts and records, maintaining high levels of accuracy and accountability. Conduct physical counts of inventory as needed to confirm that the correct quantity and parts are located where the system indicates. Locate missing parts or inventory items that are not accurately reflected in the system and resolve discrepancies. Perform detailed data entry into multiple tracking systems, maintaining accurate and timely records of inventory movements and adjustments. Use Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets and Outlook, to track information, communicate updates, and support daily operations. Support shipping, receiving, sorting, and inventory control activities as needed to maintain overall inventory accuracy. Utilize RF scanners and other inventory tools to track and confirm inventory movement within the warehouse. Follow established procedures for operating material handling equipment safely, including working in harnesses and at heights near the ceiling when picking parts. Bend, twist, lift, and walk throughout the building to locate, count, and verify inventory in various locations. Participate in a structured training program, including classroom instruction and hands-on testing for forklift operation and system usage. Complete written and hands-on exams during training and demonstrate required knowledge and skills to continue employment. Transition to on-the-job training on the warehouse floor and apply classroom learning to live inventory operations. Maintain strong attendance, especially during the first 30 days, and adhere to training and scheduling requirements. Work assigned shifts and required overtime, including 10-hour days and potential weekend work, to support production and inventory needs. Essential Skills Ability to navigate and work confidently in computer systems with a high level of aptitude. Experience performing computer data entry in web-based and database tracking systems. Previous experience working with inventory tracking and inventory control processes. Past experience operating forklifts, including comfort with stand-up or man-up forklifts. Comfort operating forklifts and electric carts in a warehouse or manufacturing setting, including working in harnesses and at heights near the ceiling. Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications, including spreadsheets and Outlook, or similar programs. Experience using order tracking systems and shipping and receiving processes. Familiarity with ERP systems and SAP or similar enterprise resource planning tools. At least 2 years of work experience in a warehouse or manufacturing facility. Demonstrated high attention to detail and strong commitment to accuracy in prior roles. Strong attendance record and reliability in previous positions. Ability to bend, twist, lift, and walk throughout a large facility to count and locate products. Comfort working with RF scanners and other inventory tracking devices. Desire to work in a role focused on solving inventory issues and correcting discrepancies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Prior experience working in SAP and/or proprietary inventory systems such as MAMM or similar. Experience working as an inventory specialist, inventory analyst, materials specialist, 4Q auditor, supply chain planner, or in a related materials or inventory role. Experience with internal or client-specific inventory software and supermarket-style inventory systems. Comfort working in a highly structured training environment with written and practical exams. Strong problem-solving mindset, with an interest in identifying root causes of inventory discrepancies and implementing corrections. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Decatur, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $21.50/hr.
