Job Description

Overview The Perioperative Inventory Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining the inventory of surgical supplies for all procedural and perioperative areas. This role ensures that all perioperative departments have the necessary supplies to provide high-quality patient care. The Perioperative Inventory Technician works closely with surgical teams, sterile processing, and materials management staff to ensure accurate inventory levels, timely replenishment, and proper storage of critical surgical supplies. Essential Duties Monitor and manage inventory levels of surgical supplies in the procedural and perioperative areas to ensure availability and prevent shortages. Conduct daily inventory checks, cycle counts, and periodic physical inventory to maintain accurate stock levels and update inventory management systems. Place orders for replenishment based on usage trends and established par levels. Receive, inspect, and restock surgical supplies in designated storage areas, ensuring proper rotation and adherence to \"\"first-in, first-out\"\" (FIFO) principles. Distribute sterile and non-sterile supplies to surgical suites and other perioperative areas based on scheduled procedures and preference cards. Ensure that all supplies are stored in a clean, organized, and compliant manner, following infection control and safety standards. Collaborate with the surgical team and sterile processing department to ensure that all necessary supplies and instruments are available. Review daily surgery schedule to ensure procedural areas and sterile processing department has the proper supplies. Respond promptly to urgent supply requests and coordinate the delivery of needed items to the OR during surgeries. Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission standards, OSHA guidelines, and infection control protocols. Conduct regular audits of inventory, storage conditions, and distribution practices to identify and address discrepancies or areas for improvement. Report any damaged or expired supplies and ensure proper disposal according to hospital policies. Work closely with perioperative nurses, surgical technologists, and sterile processing staff to understand their supply needs and provide timely support. Communicate effectively with the Materials Management Department, purchasing team, and vendors to coordinate deliveries, address discrepancies, and resolve any supply chain issues. Provide excellent customer service by responding to inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring efficient perioperative supply chain operations. Maintain accurate records of inventory transactions, including receipts, distributions, adjustments, and returns, in the inventory management system. Generate and analyze inventory usage and performance reports to support perioperative operations and cost management. Create weekly backorder report with all surgical staff, update daily as needed. Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure. Responsibilities Preferred Experience Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in inventory management, materials management, or supply chain operations, preferably in a perioperative or healthcare setting. Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that require standing, walking, and bending for extended periods.
