Inventory Controller (Inventory Accounting) Wilmington, Delaware (Hybrid - 3 Days On-Site / 2 Days Remote)

Up to $150,000 per year About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Inventory Controller to lead inventory accounting and control activities across our organization. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of inventory valuation, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting financial reporting, and partnering with operations to improve inventory processes and performance. The ideal candidate combines strong accounting expertise with inventory management experience and has a proven track record of managing inventory reconciliations, audits, and month-end close activities in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Own the inventory accounting function, including inventory valuation, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Prepare and review monthly inventory account reconciliations and journal entries. Analyze inventory transactions and investigate discrepancies between physical inventory and financial records. Lead cycle count programs, physical inventory counts, and inventory audit activities. Ensure inventory balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger and ERP system. Monitor inventory reserves, obsolescence, slow-moving inventory, and valuation adjustments. Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes related to inventory accounts. Partner with operations, procurement, warehouse, and finance teams to strengthen inventory controls and improve inventory accuracy. Develop and maintain inventory accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Prepare inventory-related analyses, KPIs, and management reports. Assist with external audits and provide supporting documentation for inventory-related inquiries. Identify process improvement opportunities to enhance reporting accuracy and operational efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in inventory accounting, cost accounting, inventory control, or financial analysis. Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles, GAAP, and internal controls. Experience preparing account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial analyses. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis. Experience working with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across accounting and operational teams. Preferred Qualifications CPA, CMA, or CPIM certification preferred. Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, retail, or consumer products environments. Knowledge of inventory costing methodologies including FIFO, LIFO, and weighted average cost. Experience supporting SOX compliance and external audit requirements. Background in inventory forecasting, inventory reserves, and cost analysis. #
