Job Description

Performs laborer duties in cemetery care and maintenance. Provides general labor for cutting grass, trimming shrubs, opening and closing grave sites and miscellaneous maintenance.
Performs general labor:
cutting grass, shrubs, opening and closing grave sites, removing leaves, and clearing debris, etc. May be asked to assist in solving customer complaints in a friendly, tactful and courteous manner.
Operates trucks:
Pick-up trucks, flatbed trucks, dump trucks and other trucks as assigned. Operates various pieces of other equipment: gasoline weed eaters, hedge trimmers, chain saws. Assists in preparing grave sites for funerals.
Loads and unloads construction material:
dirt, sand, gravel, bricks, concrete blocks and other material that may be required for daily operation of the department. Performs daily preventative maintenance on assigned equipment. Reports problems or unusual situations to supervisor. Assists in removal and clean up of debris in emergency conditions.
Performs other assigned duties:
this department performs a variety of duties any may require employee to perform other assigned duties. Shifts may vary according to the needs of the city. Employee must have eighteen months experience in field with City of Florence or related experience in field. Employee must have high school education, G.E.D. certificate or equivalent experience. Employee must have excellent safety and attendance records. Must have a valid drivers license. Ability to operate equipment assigned to department. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with co-workers and public. Ability to use and follow appropriate safety procedures and regulations. Ability to perform miscellaneous and varied assignments: cutting grass, general maintenance, opening and closing grave sites, etc. Ability to read, write and understand material related to position.
Physical Demands:
Ability to work in all weather conditions. Ability to stoop, bend, lift, and crawl into and out of trucks. Ability to lift 50 pounds (more on occasions). Ability to work in and around moving equipment and vehicles. Subject to be called out in times of emergencies.
Equipment/Tools Used:
Must be able to operate trucks, including pick-ups, flat beds, dump trucks, and others. Must be able to operate gasoline weed eaters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws.
Supervision Required:
Supervisor makes assignments and the employee must plan and use initiative in carrying out the directed assignments. Employee's work is evaluated for technical soundness.
