Job Description

General Statement of Duties This position performs a variety of duties including trash collection and disposal operations and other duties related to the operation of the Elmore County Transfer Station. Classification Summary The principal duties are performed in an outdoor environment which may involve adverse weather conditions and related hazards. Employee will maintain a clean and neat facility and yard. Employee will demonstrate an effort to improve operations of the Transfer Station. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Transfer Station Supervisor in accordance with established procedures and routines. Examples of Work (Illustrative Only)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Screen trash. Helping people unload. Directing traffic. Picking up trash that has blown. Making sure people are dumping in the right area. Running a magnet to pick up nails, etcetera. Shovel snow in the winter. Sweep/Clean. Help in the shop with removing tires from the rim and whatever else needs to be done. Other Duties and Responsibilities Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of:
Potentially hazardous materials and disposal regulations. Ground and building maintenance operations include inclement weather periods.
Ability to:
Make sound and reasonable decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and established procedures. Follow verbal and written instructions; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; Multi-task in a fast-paced environment with the skill to react quickly and calmly to events in and around the facility while operating the daily business process; Use a personal computer and common software. Maintain effective working relationships with other County employees, supervisory personnel, state and local elected officials, and the public;
Acceptable Experience and Training:
High school diploma or GED equivalency; Previous Transfer Station experience or working knowledge and understanding of sanitation practices and procedures preferred Job Requirements (required to apply): Valid Idaho Driver s License. Must be at least 18 years of age. Successfully pass a background check and drug testing. Must have the ability to accurately collect payments via cash, check, and credit cards; apply charges to, and apply payments toward, customer accounts; ability to make change for cash payments. Regular, predictable attendance, including working weekends. Essential Physical Abilities Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate in person and by telephone; Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, perform visual inspections, prepare written documentation and reports, maintain accurate files and collect money; Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and a personal computer; Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, agility, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee withstand physical exertion due to frequent walking, reaching, kneeling, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time; Work under adverse conditions and inclement weather such as sub-zero temperatures, deep snow, dust, wind, hot temperatures and odoriferous conditions Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds on a regular, frequent basis Position open until filled. 40 Hour Rotating Schedule, Monday - Saturday, 40 Hours per week, 8-hour days
