Job Description

This is a semi-skilled level of routine work performed in and around City Facilities. Work involves the performance of manual labor and various tasks related to the cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the public facilities. Assignments are performed in accordance with established procedures under general supervision. Specific instructions are received on new work assignments or special cleaning/maintenance problems. Work is normally subject to inspection upon completion for compliance with instructions.

This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Other duties may be assigned. Trash collection, emptying waste containers, and other janitorial tasks. Sweep, vacuum, mop, wash, wax and polish floors Wash windows, walls, doors and other building components Clean bathrooms and replenish soap, towels and other paper products Cleaning and painting City facilities and equipment Mowing, trimming and other landscaping tasks Shovel snow, sweep walks, spread salt on sidewalks around public facilities Assisting with studies, reports and other paperwork Knowledge of cleaning materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work Knowledge of the operating hazards involved and safety precautions necessary when using cleaning materials, tools and equipment. Ability to learn assigned general duties readily and to adhere to prescribed departmental routines Ability to work independently under limited supervision Possession and maintenance of a valid Illinois Driver's License. Must pass drug screening and background check. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all conditions including hot, cold, wet, windy and dry weather. Traveling to in-town work sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which may be uneven, wet or slippery or sloped. Physical Requirements /
