Job Summary:
Lay, repair, and maintain track and bridges for standard gauge railroad equipment used in regular railroad service or plant yards. Safely operate company vehicles that require a commercial driver's license (CDL-A or B).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Willingness to learn to operate and/or ability to operate related equipment including but not limited to Spiker, Tamper, Tie Crane, Tie Inserter, Brush Cutter, Hy-rail Trucks, Ballast Regulator, Back Hoe/Track Hoe, Air Compressor with Air Tools. Ability to operate and use related tools such as chain saws, pole saws, and rail saws. Assists in performing all phases of railroad track and bridgework. Responsible for instating and ensuring compliance to a track equipment and highway vehicle preventative maintenance program. Operate company vehicles that require a CDL A or B in a safe and efficient manner. Strict compliance to GSMR procedures/rules, roadway worker safety program and operating rules. Work as needed and perform all other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
Work on and off the track in varied terrain in all weather during both daylight and dark hours.
Must be available for duty:
weekends, nights and off hours in the event of track emergencies and/or special or emergency inspections Ability to perform continuous heavy labor in all weather conditions. Varied schedule throughout the year dictated by train schedule and maintenance operations. Schedule is typically Monday thru Thursday 10-hour days with rotating on-call weekends.
Education, Skill and Work Experience Requirements:
Valid CDL A or B license with DOT medical card. Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English. Must be able to interact effectively with coworkers and customers. Must be able to pass a background check and DMV record check. Pre-Employment & Random Drug Testing program in compliance with company policy. Must pass pre-employment fit for duty physical evaluation. Ability to work closely with others and be able to comprehend and carry out complex tasks. Experience with operation and repair of hand and power tools as well as tractors and heavy equipment. Experience with routine servicing and maintenance of off and on-road vehicles and equipment preferred. Experience with working safely with crew members as a team.
