Job Description
General Shop Laborer - Join our manufacturing team as a General Shop Laborer, where your efforts will play a critical role in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient production environment. This position supports the daily operations of our waterjet and fabrication departments through material handling, shop organization, inventory assistance, and general labor tasks. The ideal candidate is dependable, hardworking, and willing to take initiative to keep the shop running smoothly. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in maintaining a clean and productive workplace. Duties Prepare raw steel materials for production by sorting, staging, labeling, and moving material to designated work areas. Assist waterjet operators by loading and unloading steel plates, removing cut parts, and organizing completed work. Move steel, consumables, and shop materials throughout the facility using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, or other material handling equipment. Maintain clean and organized work areas, including sweeping floors, removing scrap material, emptying waste containers, and ensuring walkways remain clear and safe. Organize steel inventory, drops, remnants, and production materials to maximize storage efficiency and accessibility. Assist with inventory counts of steel stock, waterjet consumables, shop supplies, and other production materials. Prepare materials for shipment or transfer between departments by packaging, labeling, and staging products. Support fabrication personnel with material preparation, part sorting, deburring, grinding, and general shop assistance as needed. Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other general labor and housekeeping duties as assigned. Qualifications Prior experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, fabrication, or industrial environment is preferred but not required. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly. Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with common hand tools. Forklift or overhead crane experience is beneficial but not required; training may be provided. Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing production needs. Dependable attendance and a positive attitude toward supporting production operations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Ability to safely handle steel materials and operate material handling equipment after training. This position is essential to the success of our fabrication and waterjet operations. The General Shop Laborer helps ensure materials are ready when needed, work areas remain organized, and production teams have the support necessary to meet customer expectations safely and efficiently.
