Job Description

To be considered for this position, an application MUST be submitted through our website, www.lyon-county.org/jobs. Lyon County is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Worker with the Mason Valley Weed Abatement District. Throughout the months of May to September, the Seasonal Worker assists the District Manager in all phases of weed abatement. Under general supervision, this position performs essential seasonal duties to control and eradicate noxious weeds from public and private lands. Responsibilities include mixing and applying chemical herbicides, conducting bio-control activities, operating and maintaining spraying equipment, and navigating off-road terrain to access targeted areas. This outdoor role requires a strong awareness of safety protocols, proper pesticide handling, and the ability to complete detailed logs and records.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Nevada driver's license with a clean driving record.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions. Physical ability to conduct field assessments, including walking, standing, and operating equipment for extended periods. Varying shifts This position may not work over 1,039 hours in the fiscal year.

SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs various duties including chemical spraying to control and eradicate designated noxious weeds from public and private lands during summer months.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills . Mixes and applies chemicals to control and eradicate noxious weeds; performs bio-control tasks as required. Operates hand and power tools, and motorized equipment for the application of weed control sprays; maintains and repairs tools and equipment as needed. Operates various motorized vehicles to travel to weed-infested areas; surveys areas for weeds. Operates chemical spray equipment, including selecting and mixing the appropriate chemicals, calibrating the spray system, calculating rates and coverage. Completes required daily logs, records and maps. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
High School diploma/GED; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of:
Safe application of chemical pesticides and clean up procedures. Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
SDS DataSheet Skill in:
Safe and effective application of various toxic chemical sprays. Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of vehicles and equipment according to standard operating and safety procedures. Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines. Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines. Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation. Valid Nevada driver's license

Strength, stamina and dexterity to sit in vehicles operating on rough roads and rough surfaces; work is performed in an outdoor environment; subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, rain, snow, cold wind, dust, vibrations, and noise; and the ability to work independently in isolated geographic areas; occasional late afternoon and weekend shift is required; exposed to pressurized chemical vapors; may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
