Job Description

Position Summary Wilbar is seeking an experienced Hi-Lo Driver / Material Handler to support plant and warehouse operations. This position is responsible for safely operating powered industrial equipment to move, load, unload, stage, and store raw materials, steel, finished goods, and other materials throughout the facility. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of hands-on Hi-Lo/forklift experience, including loading and unloading semi-trailers and safely retrieving heavy and steel materials stored in elevated warehouse racking. This role is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Safely operate Hi-Lo/forklift equipment in a manufacturing and warehouse environment.
  • Load and unload semi-trailers, flatbeds, and other delivery vehicles.
  • Move heavy materials, including steel and other raw materials, throughout the plant.
  • Safely retrieve and place heavy materials stored on high warehouse racks.
  • Transport materials between receiving, storage, production, and shipping areas.
  • Properly position and secure loads before lifting, moving, or storing materials.
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing materials for visible damage and report discrepancies.
  • Verify materials, quantities, and locations against shipping, receiving, or production documentation.
  • Stage materials for production and finished goods for shipment.
  • Maintain organized and safe storage areas and aisles.
  • Complete required pre-shift equipment inspections and immediately report mechanical or safety concerns.
  • Follow all plant safety procedures related to pedestrians, equipment operation, load capacity, and material handling.
  • Assist with general warehouse and material-handling duties as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with Shipping, Receiving, Production, and other plant personnel. Required Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of recent experience operating a Hi-Lo, forklift, or similar powered industrial truck in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience loading and unloading semi-trailers.
  • Experience handling heavy materials, steel, or other industrial materials.
  • Experience retrieving and storing heavy materials in high/elevated racking systems.
  • Strong understanding of forklift/Hi-Lo safety practices and load capacities.
  • Ability to safely maneuver equipment in active plant environments and confined spaces.
  • Ability to read shipping documents, material labels, work orders, and basic inventory information.
  • Ability to perform basic math and accurately count materials.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to follow all company safety policies and procedures. Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or previous powered industrial truck/forklift certification.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing or steel/material-handling environment.
  • Experience operating multiple types of material-handling equipment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred, including the ability to speak, read, and write Spanish and English to support communication within the plant.
  • Experience operating Toyota forklifts, including 8,000-lb-capacity forklifts and 4,000-lb-capacity riding lifts, preferred. Physical Requirements
  • Ability to regularly sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb on and off powered industrial equipment.
  • Ability to safely handle materials and perform physical warehouse duties throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work around heavy equipment, steel, machinery, trucks, and moving materials.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include noise, temperature changes, dust, and other normal industrial conditions.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Safety Expectations Safety is a critical responsibility of this position. The Hi-Lo Driver / Material Handler must operate equipment in accordance with Wilbar safety procedures and applicable OSHA requirements. Employees are expected to stop work and immediately report unsafe equipment, damaged racking, unstable loads, blocked travel paths, or other unsafe conditions. Skills and Competencies
