About the Position The Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of freight during the shift. This role combines sales, carrier negotiation, shipment coverage, customer service, and operations. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and capable of making quick decisions when challenges arise. The position will work closely with management and the operations team to ensure shipments are properly covered, tracked, and delivered on schedule. Responsibilities Source and secure carriers for available freight while obtaining competitive transportation rates. Negotiate pricing and service terms with carriers to maximize profitability and maintain reliable coverage. Review and verify carrier qualifications before assigning shipments. Monitor active shipments and ensure accurate tracking throughout the transportation process. Quickly recover shipments when a carrier cancels, breaks down, or is otherwise unable to complete the load. Secure coverage for last-minute and spot-market freight that becomes available during the night shift. Assist with covering contracted and recurring freight as assigned by management. Communicate with drivers and carriers throughout the shipment lifecycle and provide support when issues arise. Resolve operational issues and escalate significant concerns to management when necessary. Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication with customers regarding shipment status and potential delays. Ensure all shipment information and updates are accurately entered into the company's TMS. Update pickup and delivery information when schedules change due to delays, cancellations, diversions, or other circumstances. Monitor shipments to help ensure on-time pickups and deliveries. Identify and promptly report delays, service failures, revenue-impacting issues, and other transportation concerns. Build and maintain strong working relationships with carriers, drivers, customers, and internal teams. Work efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management. Qualifications & Requirements Previous transportation, logistics, freight brokerage, or related experience is preferred but not required. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, carriers, drivers, and internal team members. Strong negotiation and relationship-building abilities. Comfortable working independently and making decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented when handling high-pressure situations. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel. Ability and willingness to learn and effectively use transportation management systems and other logistics technology. Strong work ethic, accountability, and willingness to take initiative.
