We are a growing nonprofit with a passion for bringing high-quality, inspiring, nature-based lessons to every elementary student as part of their school day. We currently provide 31 elementary schools and more than 17,000 students in the Long Beach Unified School District with edible and native plant learning gardens and teach hands-on lessons that nurture every student's academic, physical and emotional well-being. Come join our team! GroundEd is a fun and growing environmental education organization! We are looking for a passionate, mission-driven Materials Coordinator to join our team. The Materials Coordinator supports our committed team of environmental educators with engaging, standards-aligned lesson materials to teach over 17,000 students in our 31 public schools across Long Beach. This role focuses on planning, procuring and packing weekly lesson material kits as well as collaborating with co-workers, LBUSD and vendors to support our vital outdoor learning program. Success in this role comes from knowledge of managing inventory, autonomy, responsiveness, attention to detail, a high level of organization and a desire to work as a team player behind the scenes. Job Details:
Pack lesson kits with accuracy and expediency each week Create and assemble lesson kit materials Procure all supplies for lesson kits in advance to ensure all kits are prepared when needed Budget, inventory, and forecast supply needs in advance and always be prepared Organize, box, label and refrigerate produce for educator pick up Estimate, budget and order produce/consumables, ensuring deliveries match orders and payment of invoices Procure lesson kit/materials at various retailers, online and in-person Make special deliveries to all school sites approximately 3 x per school year Maintain lesson materials organization; unpack, clean, prepare returned lesson kit items for reuse Prepare year-end actual budget and forecast in June for submittal to Board of Directors Utilize Airtable to maintain and track lesson kit preparation and forecast for material needs Plan and organize materials projects for interns/volunteers working in office Assist with the design, organization, and creation of handmade gifts Candidates will: Most importantly, must be a team player! Successfully complete Live Scan fingerprint/background check and TB test 2+ years warehouse, inventory management, or sourcing experience Organized and detail oriented, reacting with appropriate level of urgency to each situation Basic knowledge of material requirement planning Excellent problem solving skills & strong negotiation skills Multitask, prioritize high volume of tasks and projects with autonomy and flexibility Ability to work independently Strong interpersonal and communication skillsPhysical Demands and Work Environment Requirements:
Moving, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and balancing Occasionally required to climb, sit, operate equipment to operate, use, prepare, inspect and position materials Occasionally required to lift and/or move 50 pounds and frequently required to lift/push/carry items less than 50 pounds Visually inspecting lesson equipment, read technical information Occasional exposure to moderate noise Valid California Driver's License (Motor Vehicle Report required). Reliable, insured vehicle and current registration. If a personal vehicle is used, the employee will be reimbursed for mileage at the current IRS rate in compliance with California Labor Code Section 2802 and will be required to comply with all California law relevant to driving. Schedule This is a part-time, non-exempt position working approximately 12-20 hours per week M-F with a potentially lighter summer schedule.
