Category Lead, IT Procurement Broad Institute paid time off, paid holidays, 401(k), retirement plan United States, Massachusetts, Cambridge May 12, 2026 Description & Requirements The Category Lead, IT Procurement, will support a complex and rapidly growing area of The Broad Institute's (TBI) Supply Chain Management (SCM) ecosystem. This position will lead the execution of the Institute's central Information Technology (IT) vendor resourcing and business strategy, as envisioned by Broad Information Technology Services (BITS) and SCM leadership, and across all applicable lines of vendor engagement, including cloud-based and on-premises data management infrastructure, software tooling to support enterprise-wide requirements, and third-party managed services where appropriate, and as an extension of BITS operations. Success in this role will require an understanding of rapidly evolving IT marketplaces, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and hardware configuration/key component variables. Additionally, this position will need to navigate complex procurement and financial structures, to assess value, and to aid in the proactive management of financial risk while partnering with key stakeholders and vendors to drive process improvements in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Partner with BITS and other Broad stakeholder groups to gather and understand requirements for all pertinent use cases, and to identify and standardize on the most appropriate vendor solutions across Broad's entire research enterprise and all supporting functions Work closely with SCM leadership to develop and follow through on vendor engagement strategies for each IT sub-category - including cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure, SaaS/software, hardware, and services - to deliver best-in-class vendor solutions while consistently returning value to the Institute Ensure alignment with the Source-to-Pay (S2P) team on best practices for financial and risk management, and for consistency in enforcing the requisite controls and protocols for Sourcing, Contracting, Procurement, and Accounts Payable Coordinate IT vendor business relationships, including conveying updates/expectations to external vendor partners regarding evolving internal Broad needs, tracking consumption patterns, as well as communicating internally to relevant parties (including SCM and BITS leadership) to inform and revise strategic planning Collaborate with the Manager, Contracts and other SCM leadership, to negotiate business and contractual terms for all IT-related vendor requirements, execute the S2P process, and subsequently manage the full vendor/contract lifecycle, including amendments, renewals, and any milestone-based actions as required Provide contractual, procurement, and overall financial oversight for all active IT vendor contracts, including periodic reviews, internally and externally, to continually assess appropriate sizing, alignment between requirements and technology solutions, and to limit redundancy of like solutions institute-wide Act as the primary liaison between SCM and BITS, to assess value and assist in other financial analysis, by maintaining an understanding of all BITS service lines and areas, including those related to networking and data center operations, data storage, and high-performance compute infrastructure (cloud-based and on-premises), virtualization, desk-side services, and central management of software/SaaS requirements Support BITS-related financial operations, including the timely completion of monthly allocations for recurring cloud services, providing user direction related to individual resource requests, and assisting with cost modeling and matters related to BITS recharge center operations Process all BITS-related purchase requests, guided by the framework of established (vendor and product) standards for each sub-category, and in compliance with Office of Sponsored Research rules and regulations where applicable Work closely with appropriate BITS members on SaaS/software resourcing, including cost-optimization for initial license deployment and subsequent reallocation, consolidation, or termination as necessary Oversee key financial and risk-related quality control measures for cloud services (e.g., hyperscalers (etc.)) account set up and ongoing maintenance, including training, onboarding, offboarding, spending limits, org-level settings, and accuracy of pertinent internal funding sources Institutional signing authority for financial obligation up to $100K Support and align SCM planning with key BITS priorities such as enterprise business systems implementations, enterprise AI planning/deployment, and other technology shifts as such arise
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 7+ years of experience in IT Procurement or IT Sales Understanding of software licensing models (e.g., concurrent use, seat-based, named user, SaaS/public/multi-tenant, SaaS/private tenant, legacy perpetual, consumption-based, click-wrap (etc.)). Experience with cloud-based and on-premises (data-center) IT infrastructure Experience working with SAP or other major Enterprise Resource Planning software a plus Knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance) is a plus Highly organized and able to manage all levels of engagement, including peer and leadership audiences The Broad Institute will not provide sponsorship for this role. The expected base pay range for this position as listed above is based on a 40 hour per week schedule. Broad provides pay ranges representing its reasonable and good faith estimate of what the organization reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary based on factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, education, qualifications, and other factors permissible by law.
