Our client is a well-established transportation and logistics organization seeking a Transportation Operations & Risk Specialist to join its centralized operations monitoring team. This position combines high-volume customer service, transportation tracking, exception management, and risk monitoring to help keep shipments moving while identifying activity that may present a service, compliance, or security concern. The ideal candidate is highly observant, comfortable working with large volumes of information, and able to quickly recognize when something does not look right. This is a fast-paced position requiring strong communication, sound judgment, and the ability to investigate issues and escalate concerns before they become larger problems. Job Scope Monitor active transportation orders and driver activity from pickup through delivery. Provide real-time Track & Trace support and maintain accurate shipment statuses within the transportation management system. Communicate with drivers, carriers, customers, account teams, and internal operations regarding shipment status, ETAs, delays, and exceptions. Identify and investigate unusual activity, inconsistencies, or deviations from expected transportation patterns. Analyze driver loads, routes, locations, and shipment information to identify potential anomalies or unauthorized activity. Escalate suspected fraud, load diversion, unauthorized driver activity, or other potential security risks according to established procedures. Proactively identify at-risk shipments and take appropriate action before a service failure or security incident occurs. Serve as a key point of contact for resolving shipment and customer service issues. Coordinate with internal teams to investigate and close operational exceptions. Maintain accurate documentation of shipment activity, communications, exceptions, and actions taken. Secure or coordinate carrier capacity when necessary and work within established pricing and service guidelines. Balance customer service expectations, carrier needs, operational requirements, and company profitability. Monitor assigned workloads and ensure outstanding issues are addressed before the end of the shift. Provide coverage for team members during scheduled rotations and absences. Participate in rotating schedule coverage, including late shifts and weekends. Qualifications College degree or at least one year of experience in logistics, transportation, dispatch, customer service, call center operations, or a similar high-volume environment. Transportation or trucking experience preferred, but high-volume customer service/operations experience will be considered. Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills. Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. Highly observant with strong attention to detail and the ability to recognize unusual patterns or inconsistencies. Comfortable analyzing information and making decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple conversations, issues, and priorities simultaneously. Strong investigative mindset with the ability to ask questions, verify information, and escalate concerns appropriately. Solid Microsoft Excel skills, including sorting/filtering data, basic formulas, reporting, and pivot tables. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook. Ability to quickly learn transportation management systems and internal applications. Familiarity with
DOT/FMCSA
regulations preferred. Electronic logging system experience is a plus.
