Covia has an immediate opening for a Logistics Coordinator based in our Independence, OH location. The Logistics Coordinator will manage the booking of export container shipments from several Covia plants in the U.S. and Canada. In addition, this position carries the responsibility of assisting with maintenance activities surrounding our fleet of leased railcars utilized in the U.S. and Canada. These activities are accomplished by developing, organizing, and maintaining export logistics company contacts and utilizing those contacts to arrange freight and resolve issues as necessary. For the fleet-related items, this position is designed to work closely with the Fleet Analyst to identify railcar issues and to address them via a network of established rail repair shops. The successful candidate will have the following
Key Accountabilities:
Negotiate and obtain favorable rates for export shipments. Working with customer service, operations and sales, execute shipment bookings as needed to meet customer needs. Ability to resolve booking-related issues such as schedule changes and canceled sailings. Possess strong communication skills to work through issues with affected parties both internally and externally. Identify export logistics service providers that are responsive to our container export needs. Domestically, manage the maintenance of Covia's railcar fleet including diversions to shop and repair cost approval. Track loaded railcar pipelines and intercede with railroads as necessary Establish trucking KPI's and provide trucking reports as requested Establish export shipment-related KPI's and provide monthly Establish fleet maintenance-related KPIs and provide monthly. Provide export cost analyses; provide fleet maintenance cost analyses Participation in weekly conference calls representing Logistics & Supply Chain Maintain close working relationship with Customer Service, Sales, and Operations teams Review and approve export-related charges surrounding detention/accessorial and other fees. Other duties as assigned The successful candidate will have the following
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree; a focus in logistics or supply chain preferred 1-3 years' experience in supply chain or logistics is preferred, especially in export-related logistics. Experience with bulk commodities by rail is a plus. Prior hands-on experience with blue water carriers as well as railroads, railcars, bulk trucks preferred. Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders Prior hands-on negotiation of export rates and sourcing of quality carriers preferred Experience tendering multi-lane requests for proposal (RFP) or carrier consolidation projects preferred Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated, and self-starter Must be a team player with strong team-building skills Great organizational skills and detail oriented. Detail orientation is a key skill. Ability to manage multiple functions at one time in a fast-paced environment Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, highly proficient in MS Excel Experience working in TMS and ERP systems Capability to build dashboards in MS PowerBI a plus Able to work extended hours on occasion when necessary Judgment and critical thinking skills Ability to analyze and solve problems Travel requirement 5-10% Commitment to
