JOB OVERVIEW
The Fleet Compliance and Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the Company's fleet. This position serves as the primary resource for fleet compliance, vehicle documentation, electronic logging devices (ELDs), driver safety coaching, equipment readiness, and regulatory compliance. The specialist will work closely with drivers, dispatch, maintenance vendors, and terminal leadership to ensure all equipment and drivers meet applicable Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and company requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fleet Compliance
- Monitor fleet compliance to ensure tractors and trailers remain operational, compliant, and inspection ready.
- Ensure all vehicles contain required DOT documentation, permits, accident kits, and company-issued materials.
- Coordinate annual inspections and preventative maintenance schedules with internal personnel and outside vendors.
- Coordinate warranty repairs and maintenance on leased equipment with leasing companies.
- Conduct routine yard audits to verify equipment condition, compliance, and inventory accuracy.
- Assist with equipment transfers between terminals as necessary. Driver Safety
- Review electronic logs daily for Hours of Service compliance, editing accuracy, and regulatory violations.
- Investigate and resolve ELD issues.
- Assist with DOT audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Monitor driver compliance trends and recommend corrective action.
- Review dash camera events and alerts.
- Conduct coaching sessions with drivers regarding unsafe driving behaviors.
- Document coaching sessions.
- Escalate repeat safety concerns to management.
- Support new driver safety orientation and ongoing safety initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class A CDL
- Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate
- Minimum four (4) years of experience in fleet operations, transportation safety, commercial driving, fleet maintenance, or related transportation field
- Strong working knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, Hours of Service regulations, and driver qualification requirements
- Experience with ELDs
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
- Ability to coach employees professionally while maintaining a positive working relationship
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects with minimal supervision
Pay:
$26.00 - $28.00 per hour
