GCSSD Transportation Specialist (West Tennessee School For the Deaf) 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 130 Trenton Hwy, Dyer, TN 38330 Part-time Gibson County Special School District 10 reviews Part-time Job Summary The Gibson County Special School District is seeking a dedicated, empathetic, and reliable individual to fill the role of Transportation Specialist . This unique position is specifically designed to accommodate the academic, social, and logistical needs of our special population of students. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe transit of deaf and hard-of-hearing students to and from the West Tennessee School for the Deaf. Because this role directly serves a specialized student body, patience, strong communication skills, and a commitment to student safety are paramount. Key Responsibilities Specialized Student Support Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment that caters to the unique cultural and linguistic needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Provide supervision and assistance to students during arrivals, departures, and transitions throughout the school day. Maintain a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity regarding students' personal and educational backgrounds. Safe Student Transportation Safely operate school-designated motor vehicles to transport students to and from the facility, field trips, or specialized events. Ensure all transit activities strictly adhere to state traffic laws and school safety protocols. Assist students with boarding and exiting vehicles safely, accommodating any additional physical or logistical needs. Job QualificationsRequirements To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following general and specialized criteria:
DrivingLicensing Requirements Valid Driver's License:
Must possess and maintain a valid general driver's license with a clean driving record.
F-Endorsement:
Must possess (or be fully eligible and willing to obtain immediately upon hire) a Tennessee "F" (For-Hire) Endorsement on their driver's license to legally operate vehicles transporting students. Motor Vehicle Record (MVR): Must pass a comprehensive motor vehicle background check. EducationExperience High School Diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience working with special education populations, youth development, or in an educational setting is highly preferred. Experience in professional or student transportation is a strong plus. CommunicationCultural Competency Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or a strong willingness to undergo immediate, intensive ASL training is highly preferred to effectively communicate with students and staff. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm and resourceful under pressure. BackgroundClearances Must successfully pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting (as required by the State of Tennessee for positions working directly with minors and vulnerable populations). Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical evaluation.
