Job Title:
Business Operations Specialist Job Description The Business Operations Specialist supports transportation operations within the supply chain organization at a manufacturing facility, focusing on both domestic and international freight. This role maintains vendor relationships, supports non-IT business projects, and operates between administrative and management levels. You will help maintain project management processes, including goals, deadlines, metrics, and budgets, while acting as a key liaison between supply chain, logistics, and other business units. This position offers an entry-level pathway into logistics, transportation, and supply chain, with opportunities to work on meaningful projects, collaborate with experienced professionals, and develop your skills in data analysis, customer service, and process improvement. Responsibilities Establish and maintain clear communication channels across business units and between the project team and the broader organization. Maintain and organize the storage and retrieval of all project communications data and business metrics to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Review contracts, cost proposals, and contract supplements to support sound business and financial decisions. Set up project structures and work breakdown structures to support effective project planning and execution. Establish, document, and continuously improve business processes to enhance operational efficiency and consistency. Track project budgets and expenditures, and monitor transaction controls and costs against approved budgets. Support transportation operations within the supply chain organization for both domestic and international freight. Perform Track & Trace monitoring to ensure materials move according to planned schedules and arrive on time. Coordinate closely with the logistics team to support inbound dock scheduling and execution at the manufacturing facility. Assist supply chain and logistics teams in moving, tracking, and tracing material from suppliers to the manufacturing facility to meet desired delivery dates and times. Monitor and track inbound transportation activities to ensure timely and accurate deliveries. Work with carriers to resolve transportation issues and exceptions as they arise. Prepare and work with transportation and operational reporting in SAP and other applications. Analyze data and business metrics to support decision-making, identify trends, and recommend improvements. Apply basic accounting and mathematical principles to support budgeting, cost tracking, and financial analysis. Contribute to process improvement initiatives within logistics and transportation support functions. Provide excellent customer service to internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring prompt and professional communication. Manage your own workload and time effectively to meet deadlines and support multiple concurrent tasks. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in business management, economics, finance, human resources, or a relevant field. 0-2 years of related experience in business operations, supply chain, logistics, finance, or a similar field. Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with internal teams, suppliers, and carriers. High attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records, reports, and metrics. Customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive working relationships. Ability to work independently and manage one's time to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Knowledge of business and management principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods. Ability to apply accounting and mathematical principles to work, particularly in budgeting, cost tracking, and financial analysis. Ability to analyze business trends and project future revenues and expenses. Previous experience using computer applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills, including working with data sets, formulas, and reports. Data mining and data analytics skills to extract, interpret, and present operational and transportation data. Problem-solving skills to identify issues in logistics, transportation, and business processes and propose practical solutions. Foundational understanding of logistics and supplier management concepts. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with SAP or similar enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, particularly in logistics or transportation modules. Experience in logistics support, including inbound transportation, Track & Trace, and dock scheduling. Exposure to process improvement initiatives within supply chain, logistics, or business operations. Interest in developing a career in logistics, transportation, and supply chain within a large manufacturing environment. Strong data analysis mindset with the ability to translate data insights into actionable recommendations. Comfort working with reporting tools and other business applications beyond Microsoft Excel. Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in supply chain, material requirements, and finance. Work Environment This role is based onsite at a manufacturing facility and involves direct interaction with the supply chain and material requirements teams. You will report into an onsite work director and a transportation analyst dedicated to the facility, working closely with logistics and operations personnel. The position is an office-based role with a Monday through Friday schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. You will work with technologies such as Microsoft Excel, SAP, and other reporting and business applications to support transportation reporting, Track & Trace monitoring, and project metrics. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Laredo, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
