Job Description

The Transportation Specialist will schedule appropriate transport of orders assuring safe arrival, on-time and on budget. Maintain and review daily and weekly shipping and open order reports. Review sales orders for accuracy of shipment information and completeness prior to shipping. Prepare and maintain all shipping documents. Handle various freight issues as they arise. Expectation are to meet or exceed the BHAG performance standards and to attain Company objectives. The ability to make informed decisions that will ensure product reaches its destination in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Essential Job Functions:
Process and confirm orders for shipment; print labels, shippers, B/L and confirmation, assuring accuracy. Print daily/weekly reports; review order status for On Time shipping; maintain accuracy of open order report. Secure carrier rate quotes and recommend best option; handle freight issues, special freight quotes, consignments, tracking shipments. Reconcile packing slip to package content (audit slips). Coordinate order and arrange for carrier. Schedule daily shipments with appropriate carrier. Process mall parcels for UPS. Communicate regularly with the other Eggers Division to assure timely transfer of product between plants. Reconcile EOP warehouse inventory. Monitor freight charges to assure actual freight does not exceed quoted freight. Submit and follow up on all freight claims to conclusion. Coordinate orders for Shipping and Receiving and arrange for carriers. Proactively problem-solve and communicate with appropriate departments when transportation or customer service issues arise. Assist with confirmation of incoming materials for inventory. Monitor packing supply inventory and maintain cycle count to assure adequate supplies are available for shipping department. Actively participate in Corporate Initiative efforts. Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required Knowledge of truck dispatching, DOT laws and regulations, and 5+ years' experience in the transportation field Prefer operations, supply chain, logistics / transportation, or highly analytical work experience Strong qualitative skills and competency working with large sets of data in Excel, Smartsheet, and other analytics tools as needed. Certification in the use of these tools is a plus. Demonstrated ability to think creatively to improve processes and solve problems Proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external team. This may include cross-functional relationships as well as relationships with carriers. Must have good customer service skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills required Microsoft Office skills; PC Miller and
AS 400 / IFS
experience beneficial Must be detail oriented Able to work with people at all levels within the organization Able to work independently with minimal supervision Able to work 8 to 10 hours daily as required, 5 days per week All team members are expected to follow the Code of Conduct to the highest standards as well as to adhere to the Attendance Policy of VT Industries.
