Job Description

Material Expeditor Position Summary Hive+Co has a contract opportunity with our client in Columbus for a Material Expeditor . The Material Expeditor is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of materials and services that support capital projects and ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M) activities. This role manages supplier commitments, monitors shipments from order placement through final delivery, and proactively addresses potential delays to minimize impacts on project schedules. Working closely with Procurement, Project Management, Planning, Logistics, and Suppliers, the Material Expeditor serves as a key point of coordination to ensure materials are available when and where they are needed. Key Responsibilities of theMaterial Expeditor Expediting & Recovery Manage expediting activities for assigned suppliers and commodities to ensure on-time delivery of materials and services. Obtain and maintain accurate supplier promise dates, production schedules, and shipment plans. Identify delivery risks early and implement recovery actions, including pull-ins, split shipments, alternate sourcing recommendations, and premium freight coordination. Escalate critical delivery issues and collaborate with stakeholders to minimize project schedule impacts. Supplier & Logistics Coordination Coordinate with supplier production, planning, and shipping teams to align material readiness with project and site requirements. Work with carriers, freight providers, customs brokers, and warehouses to ensure proper routing, shipping documentation, and delivery scheduling. Monitor shipments throughout the transportation process and resolve transit-related issues as they arise. Issue & Risk Management Resolve intermediate-level supply chain issues, including quality holds, partial shipments, customs delays, and shipping documentation discrepancies. Support claims, chargebacks, and premium freight justifications related to supplier delivery performance. Maintain visibility of high-priority orders and communicate risks to internal stakeholders. Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Buyers, Material Planners, Site Materials teams, Project Managers, and Operations personnel to maintain accurate delivery schedules. Update ERP/MRP systems to ensure a single source of truth for purchase order status and delivery commitments. Support planned outages and turnaround events through daily hot-list management and line-of-balance updates. Reporting & Continuous Improvement Maintain accurate purchase order status and shipment tracking information. Generate weekly supplier on-time delivery (OTD), past-due, and expediting reports. Analyze supplier performance trends and recommend process improvements related to lead-time accuracy, supplier confirmations, and expediting best practices. Contribute data and insights for supplier scorecards and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications of theMaterial Expeditor Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, or a related field; or Associate's degree with three (3) years of relevant experience; or Four (4) years of experience in material expediting, logistics, supply chain, procurement, or a related field. Required Skills & Qualifications of the Material Expeditor Experience working with ERP/MRP systems to manage purchase orders and material status. Knowledge of shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOL), Advance Ship Notices (ASN), and
INCOTERMS.
Understanding of logistics, supplier coordination, and transportation processes. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet critical deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and external suppliers. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic reporting or business intelligence tools for data analysis. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to proactively identify risks and implement effective recovery plans. Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications of the Material Expeditor Experience supporting utility, manufacturing, construction, industrial, or large-scale capital projects. Knowledge of supplier performance metrics and on-time delivery (OTD) reporting. Familiarity with outage, turnaround, or project material coordination processes. Experience working in fast-paced procurement or supply chain environments supporting critical operations.
