Job DescriptionThe Supervisor, Preparation Minerals oversees Preparation operations at one of the SGS Branch locations and leads daily activities of the Preparation Technicians, responsible for proper preparation of mineral samples for analysis. Ensures compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental policies, internal standards and protocols. Performs Senior Preparation Technician level duties as needed. May oversee Field and/or Laboratory teams as business demands. Job FunctionsSupervises daily job performance of the group of Technicians and performs Senior Laboratory Technician duties.

Spends approximately 50% or less time performing supervisory work:

Has some supervisory responsibility (hiring: interviewing, selection; planning work, scheduling, performance evaluations, performance management).Schedules Preparation personnel as needed to ensure that all samples are properly received, identified, prepared, and analyzed in a timely manner.

Trains all new Preparation Technicians and reinforces their training with copies of applicable ASTM, or other current standards being used to prepare samples.

Develops and maintain maintenance schedules for all Preparation equipment.

Develops an electronic and physical storage system where all Preparation worksheets, notebooks, tablets, and other paperwork or files can be stored to comply with company Records Retention schedule.

Responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations for designated locations as it applies to all employees, contractors and visitors.

Schedules and conducts monthly operations meetings to review and update procedures, to discuss existing or potential problems and their resolution, to reinforce safety rules, and clarify details of the work schedules.

Ensures that all calibrations, standardizations, and equipment maintenance are performed at the specified times, that they are in accordance with SGS procedures and specifications, and the results of these tests are recorded in logs as required.

Performs the same work as a Senior Laboratory Technician for approximately 50% of the time or more:

Prepares minerals samples in accordance with standards.

Handles all samples according to Preparation Protocol in a timely manner.

Completes and maintains all Preparation reports, logs and forms.

Performs general upkeep and housekeeping of the equipment.

Adheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned.
