We Have the Mission. Now We Need the Leader. The International District Community Center's mission is to empower, uplift and strengthen our community. Located at The Square, the center brings people together through community connection, workforce development, health and wellness, youth programming, financial education and initiatives that help create a safe, thriving community. Our neighborhood is home to people of different ages, cultures, languages, backgrounds, and experiences. We are looking for an experienced nonprofit leader who will love, grow and nurture our center into a place with meaningful, visible, and sustainable community impact. The Opportunity This is not a ceremonial Executive Director position. We need a builder, connector, fundraiser, and hands-on leader who can hit the ground running. The Executive Director will activate the center by developing relevant programming, forming strategic partnerships, building community participation, generating sustainable funding, and establishing the team and operating structure needed for long-term success. What You Will Lead Programming and Community Impact Develop and launch a diverse calendar of programs, services, classes, and events. Create programming that reflects the needs, interests and opportunities of the people who live, work, visit and operate businesses at The Square. Ensure the center contributes to making our neighborhood, The Square, a more connected, active, welcoming and thriving place. Identify opportunities for youth, family, senior, cultural, educational, workforce, wellness, food, small-business, and community-resource programming. Establish measurable goals for participation, community impact, and program quality. Evaluate programs regularly and make changes based on results and community feedback. Partnerships and Community Engagement Build trusted relationships with residents, neighborhood organizations, nonprofits, schools, businesses, faith communities, public officials, and civic leaders. Become a visible and credible presence throughout the neighborhood.. Listen to the community and translate identified needs into meaningful action. Develop partnerships that bring programs, expertise, resources, funding, and people into the center. Serve as a primary spokesperson and advocate for the center and its mission. Ensure the center remains welcoming and accessible across cultures, generations, and backgrounds. Fundraising and Sustainability Develop and personally execute annual fundraising and revenue plan with specific goals, timelines, prospects and accountability measures. Identify and pursue relevant local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grants. Cultivate relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and community supporters. Plan fundraising campaigns and events that connect donors to the center's work and impact. Build strong cases for support using measurable program outcomes and community stories. Diversify revenue through grants, donations, sponsorships, partnerships, and other mission-aligned opportunities. Leadership and Operations Translate the center's mission and vision into an actionable strategic plan. Manage the center's budget, financial performance, reporting, and resource allocation. Establish efficient systems, policies, procedures, and performance expectations. Recruit, lead, develop, and retain employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers as the center grows. Work collaboratively with organizational leadership and community stakeholders. Oversee the safe, clean, welcoming, and professional operation of the facility. Ensure programs and operations meet applicable legal, financial, safety, and nonprofit requirements. Step in when necessary to solve problems, support programs, cover scheduling gaps, or help execute an event. What We Are Looking For We need a proven nonprofit leader who can build a financially sustainable organization, not simply fill a calendar. The right person will know how to identify meaningful needs, develop programs that address them, secure the resources required to deliver them and measure whether the work produced results. This role requires someone who has successfully developed programs, raised funds, led operations, and built lasting community relationships.
Qualified candidates should have:
At least five years of progressive nonprofit leadership experience. Previous senior leadership or Executive Director-level experience. A proven record of developing, launching, and growing successful community programs. Demonstrated fundraising experience, including grants, donor cultivation, sponsorships, or fundraising events. Strong financial management, budgeting, and organizational planning skills. Financial sustainability is a central responsibility of this position. The Executive Director will personally lead fundraising and revenue development and will be held accountable for annual fundraising, grant, sponsorship and earned-revenue goals. Experience building partnerships with community organizations and public, private, and civic stakeholders. The ability to engage effectively with people from different cultures, generations, and backgrounds. Excellent public speaking, relationship-building, and written communication skills. Experience leading employees and volunteers while establishing clear accountability. Strong judgment, adaptability, creativity, and follow-through. The ability to make timely decisions and turn ideas into action. A willingness to be highly visible, accessible, and hands-on. Schedule and Physical Expectations This is a full-time, on-site leadership position. Some evening and weekend availability will be required to support programs, community events, meetings, and occasional scheduling gaps. The role also requires the ability to: Move throughout the community center and outdoor areas. Sit or stand during meetings and community engagements. Walk, bend, and remain active during programs and events. Occasionally assist with event setup, teardown, and other hands-on operational needs. How We Will Measure Success A consistent calendar of diverse, relevant, and well-attended programming. Strong partnerships with neighborhood organizations, schools, businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders. Achievement of fundraising, grant, sponsorship, and revenue goals. Responsible financial management and progress toward long-term sustainability. A safe, clean, active, and welcoming environment. A positive reputation and growing community support. A capable, accountable, and mission-driven team of employees and volunteers. Benefits Medical, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) 15 days of paid time off annually Standard paid U.S. holidays Are You Ready to Build What Comes Next? If you know how to turn fundraising into funds for the center, space into programming, relationships into partnerships, ideas into action, and community impact into sustainable support, we would like to hear from you.
