Executive Director Position Summary The Executive Director (ED) provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, financial stewardship, and community engagement for the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center (MCAAC). Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED ensures the organization fulfills its mission while maintaining fiscal health, operational excellence, and a positive and inclusive culture for staff, volunteers, and the community. This is a full-time position with an annual employment contract, subject to yearly review and renewal by the Board of Directors. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Governance Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for MCAAC, promoting its mission and programs. Work collaboratively with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic plans, policies, and organizational goals. Maintain a strong working relationship with the Board of Directors, with regular communication and coordination with the Board President to ensure alignment on organizational priorities, governance, and strategic implementation. Provide timely, accurate reports and recommendations to support informed Board decision-making. Operations & Program Management Oversee all shelter operations, including animal care standards, safety protocols, and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure implementation of best practices in animal welfare and customer service. Direct staff and volunteer management, including recruitment, training, supervision, and performance evaluation. Maintain organizational continuity and ensure effective day-to-day operations. Financial Management Develop and manage the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Board Treasurer. Monitor financial performance, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and maintain fiscal integrity. Oversee facility maintenance, capital planning, and major expenditures. Fundraising & Development Lead fundraising initiatives, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and major gift development. Develop and implement revenue strategies to support long-term organizational sustainability. Oversee marketing and public relations efforts to increase visibility, engagement, and community support. Community Engagement Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, volunteers, local businesses, government agencies, and media. Represent MCAAC at community events, conferences, and public forums. Promote humane education programs and advocate for animal welfare issues. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a nonprofit or related organization. Proven success in fundraising, including donor cultivation, grants, and/or major gifts. Strong knowledge of financial management, budgeting, and operational oversight. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with a Board of Directors and diverse stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor management systems. Preferred Experience in animal welfare, shelter operations, veterinary services, or related nonprofit fields. Master's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, or related field. Experience in strategic planning and organizational development.

Compensation Salary range:

$70,000-$80,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience. Employment Requirements Final candidate must successfully complete a background check prior to employment. Work Environment Office-based work with frequent interaction in a shelter environment. The role involves exposure to animals, cleaning agents, moderate to high noise levels, and a fast-paced operational setting. Physical Requirements Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout shelter facilities as needed. Ability to work in environments with animals and cleaning chemicals. Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone.

Pay:

$70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
