SPA:
Objective. Responsive. Trusted. The Joint, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Interagency Division (JOID) provides expert support services to a range of customers spanning across the Department of Defense, Federal Civilian, and international markets. JOID provides a diverse portfolio of analytical and programmatic capabilities to help our customers make informed decisions on their most challenging issues. Group W provides wargaming, warfare modeling and simulation, software development, data analytics, and operations research/system analysis support to the national security mission. As a leader in the fields of campaign, mission, and wargaming analysis we embrace the cycle of research paradigm, continually seeking to improve the multi-method application of tools, data, methods, and techniques to generate credible and resilient insights to inform decisions on the Department's most challenging issues spanning CONOPs, acquisitions, force structures, tactics, and strategies. Group W is the developer and maintainer of the Synthetic Theater Operations Research Model (STORM), the authoritative M&S tool accepted by the Joint Analytic Community for analysis of theater-level, multi-domain, joint warfare. Similarly, we developed and manage the Standard Wargame Integration and Facilitation Tool (SWIFT) for OSW as an adaptable environment to support joint force combatants' wargaming requirements. Group W has an immediate need for a Digital Wargaming Development Intern to work onsite with the team at our Dumfries location. Responsibilities The Digital Wargaming Development Intern will work on high-impact projects related to defense and military wargaming and analysis. The candidate will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience by working on next generation wargaming solutions that leverage emerging technologies and techniques to accelerate the cycle of research. This internship provides the opportunity to work alongside mentors and colleagues with years of modeling and wargaming experience while joining an environment committed to excellence, continual growth, innovation, and risk-taking.
Qualifications Required:
Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an applied science or quantitative related field such as engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, statistics, or operations research Ability to adapt to new technology and tools Interest in modern military problem sets Previous experience or coursework with coding U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance

Coursework or projects that relate to requirement definition and problem solving Passion for building tools that help people understand, analyze, and visualize complex data sets Academic coursework, experience, or research with one or more of the following: Python, Java, R, SQL, PL/SQL, or C++ Ability to create meaningful visualizations from data
