Job Description

Velan is a world leader in the design and manufacture of industrial valves. Headquartered in Montreal and 12 plants worldwide, we manufacture and market complex and innovative industrial valves for various industries. Reporting to the Director, Continuous Improvement, the intern will support operational excellence initiatives by assisting with process analysis, documentation and performance measurement. This position provides hands-on experience in applying Lean, Six Sigma, and data-driven decision-making to improve business and manufacturing processes. The intern will work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and business teams to identify inefficiencies, standardize processes, and drive measurable improvements. Responsibilities Process mapping & improvement Document processes in their current state using flowcharts, value stream maps, and swimlane charts Analyze workflows to identify waste, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement Support future-state process design aligned with Lean principles Participate in Kaizen events or improvement workshops Work instructions & standardization Develop and update standard work instructions and standard operating procedures Collaborate with domain experts to ensure accuracy Incorporate visual management best practices Ensure alignment with quality and compliance requirements Data analysis & reporting Collect, clean, and analyze operational data Create reports and dashboards (Excel, Power BI, or similar) Perform basic statistical analysis Present the results and recommendations Collaboration & communication Working with cross-functional teams Participate in meetings and presentations Assist IC leaders in project monitoring Your profile Pursue a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, business, supply chain or MBA Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Strong communication skills Attention to detail and organization Interest in Lean and continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma Experience in process mapping or documentation Basic statistics or data tools Previous internship experience Learning Outcomes Practical experience in the application of CI methodologies Exposure to cross-functional operations Hands-on experience in process mapping Data Analytics Skills Development Opportunity to present to management Work Environment On-site environment with the ability to travel between Canadian and U.S. sites Rapid collaborative framework If you recognize yourself in this profile and want to take on this challenge, we will be happy to learn more about you.
