Application Review Date The First Review Date for this job is: April 29, 2026 Responsibilities The Operations Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center for Healthcare Marketplace Innovation, a research center dedicated to advancing healthcare systems. Under the leadership of the Faculty Director and Executive Director, this position will manage staff and administrative duties, including IT, short- and long-term planning, keeping projects on schedule and budget, and similar tasks. The incumbent will also manage the center's office space and oversee administrative activities for the center's research lab, startup studio, and policy accelerator. This administrative role will manage, plan, and administer a range of operations for the center, where operations are significantly complex in terms of budgetary funding, number of faculty, staff, and students, and/or are broad in scope due to the focus of operations (e.g., computer or wet lab space and equipment, fundraising, grant writing, etc.). Ensures successful operation of the center across a variety of research projects, startup programs, and policy initiatives. Works with center leaders, as well as IBI, Haas, and campus faculty and staff on planning and execution of programs, projects, and events. Coordinates with center faculty affiliates from across multiple departments (Economics, Public Health Computing and Data Science, and Business) to ensure execution of their projects. Contributes to or leads grant writing, fundraising, and similar tasks necessary to funding center activities. Administrative operations include budgetary financial management and human resources and may include some of the following functions: IT, facilities, student services, recharge administration and/or contracts and grants. Leads day-to-day operations for the center, including overseeing execution of tasks under contracts and grants. Manages center IT resources, including data sets, software, server space, and AI tools. Works with center leadership, as well as IBI and Haas staff to plan and execute on hiring of staff and GSRs, as well as financial management. Develops and prepares complex budgets with multiple funding sources for grants, general appropriations, and endowments. Prepares short- and long-range planning for administrative services operations and improvements to processes. Works with center executive director and faculty director on planning, applying for, and executing on grants and contracts for research projects. Coordinates with IBI and Haas staff on preparing and administering these processes. Analyzes and provides recommendations for improvements on center operational and administrative functioning. Provides analysis for highly complex budgetary funding, financial and resource projects. Works with IBI and Haas staff on annual center budgeting and planning process. Works with IBI and Haas staff on project financial planning and reporting. Serves as special resource for pre- and post-contracts and grants work, interpreting regulations and guidelines on grants and/or contracts, ensuring expenses are paid according to contract, and/or monitoring contract and grant expenditures. Ensures execution on grant and contract project plans. Responsible for compliance with healthcare data handling and similar management tasks for grants and contracts. Works with IBI and Haas staff to ensure budgets are followed, expenses are paid, and adequate tracking is in place. Performs administrative operations activities as predominant focus of position, with accountability for operational and budget processes, staff FTE, finance, human resources and space planning. Leads operations and administrative tasks for center activities and programs, including conferences, research projects, startup acceleration programs, and similar activities. Works with IBI and Haas staff to plan, budget, and administer budgeting, financial, and HR tasks. Administers critical center activities, such as working with campus and external stakeholders on IT planning and management, data sharing agreements, and similar activities. Typically supervises support staff or small number of professional staff within or outside the scope of main business activities (e.g., student services, facilities, etc.). Supervises day-to-day activities of a small team of research engineers, administrative staff, postdocs, and graduate student researchers. Oversees the facilities for the center's office space. Applies advanced concepts to perform analysis to determine future resource allocations on projects. Analyzes and reports on metrics and KPIs for existing research projects, startup initiatives, and policy activities for reporting and planning purposes. Evaluates opportunities and costs for potential projects. Represents the department on business issues to the institution community and serves on committees. Represents the center at IBI, Haas, and campus meetings and committees that are relevant to its activities. Serves on committees and task forces with external stakeholders to represent the center's interests to the broader healthcare innovation business world. Required Qualifications Advanced knowledge of and/or can quickly learn University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for data management, contracts and grants management, fund management, and personnel management, including of represented employees. Advanced interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills. Advanced knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, data handling, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines. Knowledge of specific requirements and activities in these areas related to the healthcare industry is essential. Advanced knowledge of and/or can quickly learn common University-specific computer application programs. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality. Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service. Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees. Experience with and advanced knowledge of health care industry-specific requirements for data handling and management, IT requirements, and partnership with major stakeholders in this industry. Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating a desire to establish and maintain positive & professional working relationships with colleagues, students and team members. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
