Requirements Job Overview The Director of Financial Operations , in partnership with the Managing Finance Director, is responsible for the financial planning and management, and the business operations and analysis, of The Georgetown College of Arts & Sciences (CAS). The Director of Financial Operations also leads the financial operations team for the CAS and partners with financial services team that provide support to CAS. The Director of Financial Operations works closely with the Managing Finance Director to ensure that the financial planning, management, and administration of the CAS aligns with the school's mission and objectives. This position is responsible for the creation, submission, implementation, execution and analysis of the CAS' detailed expense and revenue budgets. The Director of Financial Operations communicates data-supported financial trends, projections, and other KPIs to leadership and various decision-makers within CAS, Main Campus (Provost's Office), and University level. This position is responsible for collaborating with school and campus leadership, along with other campus partners, to strategize on best practices, system and operational enhancements, and change management. This position participates in analysis and problem resolution involving financial, administrative, and policy matters affecting the CAS. The Director of Financial Operations serves as representative for the CAS on cross-school and campus committees and other forums, providing input for university partners for decision making, as well as advocating for the interests of, and providing perspective from, the CAS. This position also serves as consultant for the CAS' various stakeholders in interpreting and implementing changes to policy, procedures, or system/business operations. The Director of Financial Operations assists in implementing effective internal controls and overseeing adherence to University business policies and procedures. The Director of Financial Operations will provide exceptional customer support to departments by accurately anticipating and/or identifying needs, troubleshooting issues, and executing effective resolutions in a timely manner and in compliance with promulgated policies. This position provides, and/or advises on, training to various administrators within the CAS. The Director of Financial Operations will be an expert on, and ensure compliance with, university, campus, and school policies, procedures, and best practices, and will maintain a thorough understanding of the GMS Chart of Accounts fields, values, and how they interrelate. This position will also be expected to be knowledgeable on pertinent regulatory information in regards to sponsored activity, both generally, and with specific sponsors. Work Interactions The Director of Financial Operations reports directly to the Managing Finance Director. The Director of Financial Operations supervises 4+ full-time employees and manages the relationships of the "dotted-line" teams supporting CAS (including Accounting, Procurement.) The position also works closely with the CAS' department chairs, program directors, and departmental administrators. This position works with, and/or advises, members of the CAS Finance office on a number of critical tasks relating to the financial operations of the CAS, including, but not limited to: annual budget development and analysis, monthly reconciliations, continuous and in-depth department and faculty support for all matters and inquiries related to finance and budget, maintenance of faculty research accounts (both internal funds and external/sponsored funds), post-award administration for sponsored grants, monthly forecasting of revenue and expense trends, approval of all financial transactions in accordance with developed budget, university policy, and, if applicable, sponsor requirements, and position budget/compensation analysis and review. This position interacts with many University departments, requiring excellent customer service skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituents.
