Operations Manag er Surfer Beach Hotel - Pacific Beach, San Diego, CA Surfer Beach Hotel is seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Manager to oversee daily hotel operations and help deliver an exceptional guest experience at our 53-room beachfront property. The ideal candidate is a visible and engaged leader with strong hotel operations experience. This position works closely with the General Manager to oversee the front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and overall property operations. The Operations Manager will lead employees, maintain service and cleanliness standards, manage labor and operating expenses, resolve guest concerns, and ensure the hotel operates safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily hotel operations, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and guest services. Support the General Manager in achieving the hotel's financial, operational, and guest-satisfaction goals. Maintain a visible presence throughout the property and provide hands-on support during high-demand periods. Lead, train, coach, schedule, and evaluate hotel employees. Review occupancy forecasts and business demand to ensure efficient staffing and appropriate department coverage. Monitor labor expenses, overtime, purchasing, and departmental costs. Conduct regular inspections of guestrooms, public areas, exterior spaces, and back-of-house areas. Ensure hotel cleanliness, maintenance, safety, and presentation standards are consistently achieved. Coordinate room readiness, maintenance priorities, special requests, and operational needs across departments. Respond to guest concerns promptly and professionally, providing appropriate service recovery when necessary. Monitor guest feedback, online reviews, and service trends to identify opportunities for improvement. Ensure accurate front desk procedures, including reservations, cash handling, deposits, room assignments, and shift reporting. Assist with revenue-management efforts by monitoring occupancy, rates, room availability, and booking patterns. Review department schedules, payroll records, invoices, inventory levels, and purchasing requests. Maintain adequate operating supplies while controlling waste and unnecessary expenses. Ensure employees follow hotel policies, emergency procedures, key controls, and workplace-safety requirements. Coordinate with vendors and follow up on repairs, inspections, and property-improvement projects. Participate in weekly operational, financial, forecasting, and performance-review meetings. Serve as the manager on duty and provide property coverage when the General Manager is unavailable. Perform additional duties as necessary to support the successful operation of the hotel.
