Job Description

Position Overview:
Farmington Polo Club is seeking a warm, attentive, and service-minded Summer Hospitality Intern to support the Club's guest experience, member services, and event hospitality operations throughout the polo season. This is a hands-on opportunity to develop real-world hospitality skills in a premier equestrian sports environment. The intern will work closely with Club leadership and staff to ensure every guest and member feels welcomed, valued, and well cared for. The ideal candidate has a genuine passion for people, a professional and polished demeanor, and the drive to deliver exceptional service in a dynamic, outdoor setting.
Responsibilities:
Greet and welcome guests, members, and VIPs upon arrival, ensuring a warm and polished first impression at all Club events and match days Assist with food and beverage service, hospitality tent setup, and the presentation of member and sponsor lounges Manage guest check-in, seating assignments, and day-of attendee inquiries with professionalism and efficiency Support event setup and breakdown including table arrangements, décor, linen, and hospitality station preparation Assist with coordinating catering vendors, monitoring food and beverage inventory, and ensuring timely replenishment throughout events Serve as an on-site point of contact for guests, responding to questions, requests, and concerns promptly and graciously Support sponsor and partner hospitality activations, ensuring sponsor guests receive attentive, high-quality service Assist with member communications, RSVP tracking, and pre-event correspondence to ensure smooth guest experience logistics Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and presentation standards across all guest-facing areas of the Club Perform other duties as assigned by leadership
Environment:
Office 65•F - 75•F Primarily outdoor; ability to work comfortably in varying weather conditions including heat, sun, and wind during polo season events
Schedule:
Seasonal internship (summer); approximately 15-25 hours per week with scheduling driven by the Club's polo event calendar. Weekend availability required; most events take place on Saturday and Sunday afternoons during the polo season.
Compensation:
$18.00 per hour
Experience:
Required:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Hospitality Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Event Management, Tourism, Communications, or a related field
Preferred:
Prior experience in a customer-facing role such as food service, hotel front desk, event staffing, retail, or club/venue hospitality
Preferred:
Familiarity with guest services, hospitality standards, or food and beverage operations
Preferred:
Interest in equestrian sports, luxury/lifestyle brand environments, or premium guest experience settings
Preferred:
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to Club grounds in
Farmington, CT Preferred:
Proficiency in English (written and verbal) to effectively communicate with associates and leadership
Skills:
Physical abilities: Ability to stand, walk and sit throughout your day; Walking on a variety of flooring such as carpet, concrete, tile etc.; Ability to lift and move up to 30lbs
Guest Services Skills:
Ability to provide attentive, gracious service to guests and members; anticipate needs and respond to requests in a timely and professional manner
Communication Skills:
Ability to communicate warmly and professionally with guests, members, vendors, and Club staff in a dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting
Organizational Skills:
Ability to stay composed and efficient while managing multiple guest needs simultaneously during high-volume event days
Collaborative Spirit:
Willingness to assist wherever needed, maintain a positive attitude under pressure, and contribute to a seamless team effort on event days
