Full-time, Monday-Friday , Saturday as needed Position Summary Meyer's Turf & Nursery is seeking a hands-on, highly organized Operations Manager to oversee all yard operations, nursery inventory, fleet coordination, equipment management, purchasing, logistics, and facility organization. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the yard operates safely, efficiently, and profitably while supporting retail, wholesale, landscaping, and delivery operations. The Operations Manager will maintain accountability for all company assets including inventory, equipment, vehicles, tools, and materials while driving operational excellence throughout the organization. The objective is to maintain an organized, productive yard and nursery environment that supports exceptional customer service and profitable growth. Key Responsibilities Yard & Nursery Operations Oversee daily operations of the nursery, bulk material yard, and equipment storage areas. Ensure all plant material, trees, shrubs, turf products, mulch, stone, and inventory are properly organized and maintained. Coordinate yard traffic flow, customer loading areas, and material staging. Maintain clean, safe, and professional yard conditions at all times. Establish and enforce yard procedures, organization standards, and storage protocols. Monitor nursery health, watering schedules, plant quality, and inventory condition. Coordinate receiving, staging, and distribution of incoming materials and nursery stock. Manage seasonal inventory transitions and product displays. Implement weekly yard inspections and housekeeping procedures. Maintain secure storage of equipment, tools, and materials. Inventory, Purchasing & Material Control Maintain accurate inventory counts for nursery stock, hardscape materials, turf products, fertilizers, chemicals, and supplies. Conduct routine physical inventory audits and investigate discrepancies. Manage material receiving, tracking, and allocation processes. Ensure all purchases are properly approved and documented. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate reordering to prevent stock shortages. Identify slow-moving inventory and recommend corrective actions. Track inventory shrinkage, waste, and material loss. Work closely with accounting to ensure inventory accuracy and cost control. Collect and verify receipts, purchase orders, and vendor invoices. Submit purchasing documentation and inventory reports to leadership and accounting. Fleet & Equipment Management Oversee all company trucks, trailers, forklifts, skid steers, loaders, and equipment. Maintain preventive maintenance schedules and service records. Ensure vehicle registrations, inspections, insurance, and DOT compliance are current. Monitor fuel usage, repair costs, and equipment downtime. Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs to minimize operational disruptions. Manage GPS tracking systems and improve vehicle accountability. Maintain equipment utilization records and service schedules. Assist ownership with fleet replacement and equipment acquisition planning. Train team members on vehicle and equipment safety procedures. Yard & Operational Standards Maintain clean and organized North and South yard operations. Implement weekly yard cleanup procedures. Enforce truck cleanliness inspections. Oversee jobsite end-of-day cleanup protocols. Monitor yard security and after-hours asset movement. Support route and dispatch efficiency improvements. Licensing & CDL Premium Pay A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred and may be required based on operational needs. Candidate must be capable of operating company trucks and trailers when necessary. Active CDL holders may qualify for additional hourly compensation based on experience and value to operations. Staff Leadership & Accountability Supervise yard personnel, loaders, drivers, and operations staff. Establish performance expectations and accountability standards. Conduct employee training on safety, equipment operation, and operational procedures. Enforce company policies and operational standards. Coordinate staffing and schedules to meet seasonal demands. Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement. Provide regular reporting and operational updates to ownership.
