This role serves as the senior operations leader on night shift and partners closely with the FSQA Supervisor to ensure safe, high-quality, and efficient production. With only two managers in the building overnight, this position requires sound judgment, calm decision-making, and consistent follow-through. The Night Shift Manager is accountable for execution: delivering the production plan, maintaining standards, and ensuring a disciplined, well-documented handoff to day shift. This role requires someone who is comfortable working nights long-term and who takes pride in leading a high-performing team. The ideal candidate brings manufacturing leadership experience (baking preferred), strong floor presence, bilingual communication skills (Spanish/English), and the ability to lead with both urgency and respect. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as senior operations leader on shift, providing full shift ownership and decision-making authority.
  • Deliver the production plan safely and efficiently while maintaining food safety and quality standards.
  • Lead frontline leads and production teams with visible floor presence and consistent engagement.
  • Partner with FSQA Supervisor to ensure compliance with GMPs, sanitation standards, and customer requirements.
  • Make real-time decisions regarding staffing adjustments, downtime response, material flow, sequencing, and priority changes.
  • Escalate issues appropriately when necessary, while demonstrating strong independent judgment in routine and complex situations.
  • Conduct structured shift huddles and reinforce clear performance expectations.
  • Maintain disciplined reporting of production output, labor, downtime, and waste.
  • Coach frontline leaders on performance standards, accountability, and training coverage.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, warehouse, route pulling, and other support functions on shift to protect service levels and product quality.
  • Deliver thorough shift handoffs outlining performance, challenges, resolutions, and open items.
  • Reinforce Engelman's core values of Quality, Dependability, and Teamwork through daily leadership behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of this role.

BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
(EDUCATION and/or
EXPERIENCE
) Required Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing or food production experience. At least 2 years of direct shift leadership experience with people management responsibility. Demonstrated ability to operate independently and make sound decisions under pressure. Strong floor leadership presence and effective communication skills. Willingness to work nights long-term; this role is not structured as a short-term pathway to day shift. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. Preferred Baking or high-speed food production experience. Bilingual Spanish and English (strongly preferred for effective leadership of the team). Experience leading in a food safety-regulated environment (GMPs, SQF/BRCGS familiarity). Experience with production reporting systems and downtime tracking tools. Structured problem-solving or continuous improvement experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, taste, or smell. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 - 25 pounds, and occasionally more than 50 pounds with assistance from co-worker and/or mechanic devices. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. May require use of equipment in machine shop, small portable equipment, and manual tools. Duties may require occasional operation of a motor vehicle or travel to another state on behalf of the company.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet and/or hot, humid conditions. The employee may be handling items that may be very hot. Noise level is usually moderate.
