Job Description:
Trainer - OSP Wireline Construction (Underground Fiber) Position Summary We are seeking an experienced OSP Wireline Construction Trainer to support underground fiber construction operations. This full-time position is responsible for developing and delivering classroom and field-based training programs for Outside Plant (OSP) wireline construction crews, with a strong emphasis on safe, efficient underground fiber installation and the proper operation of heavy equipment used in telecom construction. This role is ideal for a hands-on OSP professional who enjoys teaching, mentoring, and developing field personnel. You will directly impact safety, quality, and productivity by ensuring crews are properly trained, compliant, and equipped to perform high-quality work. The successful candidate will bring real-world utility and telecommunications construction experience and have the ability to translate field knowledge into effective classroom instruction and hands-on field training. Key Responsibilities Training & Development Train new and existing employees on company policies, industry standards, and construction best practices. Deliver classroom and hands-on field training for OSP wireline construction crews. Ensure employees are qualified, safety-compliant, and job-ready. Assist managers and supervisors with employee development plans. Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and documentation. Field Operations Training. Train crews on the safe and effective operation of heavy equipment, including: Backhoes. Excavators. Directional drills. Train employees on the safe use of hand tools and small equipment, including: Shovels. Tampers. Generators. Other construction tools and equipment. Train personnel on utility locating and identification of buried infrastructure. Train underground fiber and communications cable installation methods, including: Pedestals. Hand holes. Conduit systems. Train proper flagging, traffic control, and work zone safety procedures. Train restoration practices for customer property and construction sites. Safety & Quality Assurance. Conduct field audits, worksite walk-throughs, and safety reviews. Identify and address field performance, safety, and quality concerns. Reinforce OSHA, DOT, company, and customer safety standards. Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications Authorization to work in the United States. Utility construction field experience with demonstrated crew leadership responsibilities. Telecommunications construction experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of construction safety practices and field operations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively present training in classroom and field environments. Ability to work collaboratively with employees and leaders at all levels. Basic computer proficiency, including experience with Google Workspace or similar applications. Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and obtain/maintain a valid medical card. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience training, mentoring, or coaching construction crews. Strong knowledge of underground fiber optic installation practices. Experience conducting field inspections, worksite walk-throughs, and safety audits. Experience developing or implementing construction training programs. Equipment & Technical Knowledge. Experience training or operating the following equipment is highly preferred: Backhoes. Excavators. Directional drilling equipment. Diesel-powered construction equipment. Gasoline-powered construction equipment. Pneumatic gopher and jetting equipment. Air compressors. Skills & Competencies Strong leadership and mentoring abilities. Effective classroom and field training skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Safety-focused mindset. Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to motivate and develop field personnel. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Work Environment Combination of classroom, office, and active construction site environments. Frequent travel to project sites and training locations. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions and construction environments. Ability to work around heavy equipment and active utility construction operations.
