Job Description:
A respected, family-owned underground utility contractor with deep roots in the Greater Boston market is conducting a confidential search for a Senior Superintendent to lead complex water, sewer, drainage, and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout Eastern Massachusetts. This organization has built its reputation over decades on craftsmanship, accountability, safety, and long-term relationships. The company specializes in underground utility construction, including large-diameter water main installation, sewer infrastructure, pump stations, roadway reconstruction, and sitework for public and private clients. The Senior Superintendent will play a critical leadership role overseeing multiple field operations, mentoring project teams, coordinating with ownership and project management, and ensuring successful execution across several active projects. Position Overview The ideal candidate is a proven field leader with extensive underground utility and heavy civil construction experience who thrives in fast-paced environments and understands the complexities of municipal infrastructure work in urban and suburban settings. This individual will lead project superintendents, foremen, operators, subcontractors, and field crews while maintaining the highest standards for safety, production, quality, and client communication. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple underground utility and heavy civil projects Manage field teams including superintendents, foremen, operators, laborers, trucking, and subcontractors Coordinate manpower, equipment, schedules, and logistics to maintain production goals Drive project safety culture and ensure full OSHA and municipal compliance Collaborate with project managers, engineers, inspectors, and municipal representatives Lead utility installation operations including: Water mains Sewer mains Drainage systems Pump stations Roadway and site reconstruction Conduct project planning meetings, progress reviews, and schedule coordination Mentor and develop upcoming field leadership talent Resolve field challenges proactively while maintaining productivity and quality standards Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget expectations Maintain strong relationships with clients, municipalities, and utility authorities Qualifications 10+ years of progressive heavy civil or underground utility construction experience 5+ years in a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent leadership role Strong background in: Water and sewer infrastructure Deep utility installation Urban utility construction Public works projects Heavy excavation and sitework Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and crews Strong scheduling and coordination skills Experience working with municipalities, engineers, and public agencies Knowledge of safety regulations, excavation standards, and utility best practices Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities OSHA certifications preferred Valid driver's license required What's Offered Competitive compensation package Company vehicle and fuel allowance Comprehensive health and dental benefits 401(k) with company contribution Paid vacation and holidays Long-term career growth with an established and expanding contractor Stable pipeline of infrastructure work throughout the Greater Boston region Family-oriented culture with strong leadership support and field collaboration
