Job Summary Job Description Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Power Generation Operations Director to lead and oversee both primary and secondary generation systems at our U.S. data center sites. This role will be responsible for the development and execution of methods and procedures (MOPs) to ensure the continuous protection of compute load-particularly during load transfers and ramp rate transitions. The Director will partner closely with operations training teams to build, implement, and continually improve repair and maintenance programs. Additional responsibilities include managing power plant agreements for on-site power generation and directly recruiting and managing teams to operate power equipment, with a focus on achieving 100% equipment availability.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead, supervise, and develop teams responsible for the operations and maintenance of both primary and secondary power generation assets. Develop, document, and maintain comprehensive MOPs to guarantee compute load protection during generation transitions, including detailed ramp rate controls. Collaborate with operations training teams to create and deliver effective repair and maintenance training programs for all generation system staff. Oversee the negotiation, execution, and ongoing management of power plant agreements for on-site generation, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and uptime targets. Directly recruit, hire, and lead specialized teams as needed to operate on-site power generation equipment, maintaining 100% system availability. Establish, monitor, and report on performance metrics related to power system reliability, efficiency, and responsiveness to critical incidents. Champion a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements and corporate standards. Serve as the primary escalation point for high-severity power incidents, coordinating rapid and effective resolution. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes affecting power system operations.
Responsibilities Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in power generation operations, with 5+ years in a leadership or director-level capacity. Deep knowledge of primary and secondary on-site power generation technologies and their integration into mission-critical facilities. Proven expertise in developing MOPs to manage compute load protection and ramp rate adherence. Strong background in building effective training, repair, and preventive maintenance programs. Demonstrated success in negotiating and managing complex power plant or energy-related agreements. Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Experience in data center, mission-critical facilities, or utility environments is highly desirable.
Preferred Skills:
Professional Engineering (PE) license or equivalent certification. Experience with regulatory compliance (e.g., NERC, FERC, OSHA, EPA) for power operations. Prior exposure to high-availability operational environments (e.g., data centers, hospitals, financial institutions). Proficiency with CMMS, SCADA, and/or other control and monitoring systems. This position is located in Dona Ana County, New Mexico.
