This role will provide direction, organization, creativity and strategy regarding the music, talent, promotions, and production necessary to produce a marketable radio station.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Discuss plans with marketing personnel to promote sales of programs and periods to advertisers and their agencies
- Plan long and short-term programming and promotional strategies
- Recommend departmental budgetary needs
- Conduct strategic research to gain high Arbitron ratings and determine if changes need to be made with personnel or format based on the interpretation of Arbitron ratings
- Schedule music when needed and perform on-air as needed
- To ensure all reporting staff has the necessary skills to perform their assigned Job Responsibilities at the highest level of professionalism (consistently appropriate) and competence (effective and efficient) on an ongoing basis
- To maintain high performance and effectively deal with identified non-performance in a timely manner
- To recruit and train new staff when and w required
- Ensure discretion is exercised at all times for functionality of the business practices, specifically as it applies to:
- Oversee all activities to ensure compliance with FCC regulations including Emergency Broadcast Service and transmitter requirements
- Collaborate with the General Manager to discuss station policy and administrative procedures
- Share insights with the Engineering Department to accomplish station needs and goals
- Perform special projects under the direction of the General Manager
- Engage in skill-building workshops that are relevant to the ongoing development of the roleTo stay current with all relevant industry information as it applies to the overall job responsibility
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Must be a critical thinker and exercise appropriate management skills. Ability to multitask, be flexible, and work long hours, including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to analyze general business procedures or governmental regulations
- Ability to operate mixer boards, remote, and online equipment
- Directly supervises employees in the department in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
- Lead interviewing, hiring process, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance reviews for direct reports; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
- Effectively draft correspondence and develop work plans for direct reports
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Assess data and address concerns and share technical insights as needed
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Complies with Network and Urban One's mandatory training and ads to related course deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and direct a team to include but not limited to:
- Provide regular constructive feedback
- Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner
- Provide ongoing guidance and support for growth and development
- Deploy effective coaching skills
- Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws
- Ability to effectively administer performance reviews and corrective action plans as appropriate.
- Ensure team (s) attend mandatory department and/or mandatory company training (s) as required.
- Submit to a criminal background check
- Legal right to work in the United States EDUCATION and/or
