ANIMAL SHELTER PERSONNEL ARE EMPLOYEES OF THE ANIMAL SERVICE CENTER OF THE MESILLA VALLEY - NOT THE CITY OF LAS CRUCES.
The Strategic Initiatives Manager is responsible for coordinating organizational reporting, strategic projects, operational tracking systems, and administrative initiatives across the Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV). This position serves as a central point for organizational data integrity, project accountability, executive reporting, and cross-department coordination. This role supports leadership decision-making by ensuring that operational data, public-facing information, board reporting, and internal metrics are accurate, consistent, actionable, and aligned across all systems and departments. The Strategic Initiatives Manager will oversee organizational projects from planning through implementation, support development and maintenance of SOP systems, coordinate reporting requirements, assist with public records requests, and help maintain operational accountability systems across the organization. This position works closely with the Executive Director and all department leaders. Environmental Factors This position operates in both office and shelter environments and may require exposure to animals, cleaning chemicals, noise, and emotionally difficult situations common in animal welfare operations. Physical Factors Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to operate standard office equipment. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to move throughout shelter facilities as needed. Work Situation Factors Position involves completing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues; may be assigned to a non-traditional work schedule based on operational need; some handling of animals may be required; may have animals housed in office work area. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and ASCMV policies. FIRST CONSIDERATION MAY BE GIVEN TO CURRENT ASCMV EMPLOYEES WHO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS.
Full-Time; Regular; Exempt. This position is a grade XE17. Develop, maintain, and standardize internal and external organizational reports. Compile and analyze operational metrics including intake, outcomes, live release rate, length of stay, staffing, surgery, foster, volunteer, and field-related data. Maintain dashboards and reporting systems to support operational and strategic decision making. Ensure consistency of organizational data across reports, public communications, grant reporting, presentations, and board materials. Identify reporting discrepancies, trends, and operational concerns and elevate findings to leadership. Assist departments with data collection, report development, and metric tracking. Coordinate organization-wide projects and strategic initiatives assigned by leadership. Track timelines, deliverables, accountability measures, and implementation progress for major initiatives. Support development, organization, and implementation of organizational SOPs, policies, and workflow documentation. Assist with operational assessments, program reviews, and process improvement initiatives. Maintain project management systems and organizational tracking tools. Coordinate preparation of board agendas, board packets, reports, presentations, and supporting documentation. Assist with preparation of grant reporting and organizational documentation. Coordinate and track public records requests and related documentation. Support executive leadership with research, analysis, and special projects. Prepare professional reports, summaries, presentations, and operational analyses for internal and external stakeholders. Assist with oversight and coordination of organizational software systems, reporting tools, and operational databases. Help ensure departments are following standardized documentation and reporting practices. Support development of operational workflows that improve efficiency, accountability, and communication. Assist in implementation and maintenance of organizational performance tracking systems. Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, data analytics, organizational management, communications, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Minimum of three (3) years of experience in project coordination, reporting, operations support, administrative management, analytics, or related field preferred. Experience working with organizational reporting systems, dashboards, or operational metrics strongly preferred. Experience in animal welfare, nonprofit, municipal government, or operational environments preferred. Licenses/Certification(s) Valid driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with ASCMV policies. Must have:
