THE OPPORTUNITY A
beloved historic Adirondack Great Camp is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Managing Innkeeper to lead day-to-day operations of our year-round retreat property. This is a rare and exceptional opportunity to live and work in one of the most breathtaking settings in the Adirondacks — with compensation, housing, and benefits to match. This is a full-time, salaried, live-on-site position with year-round housing provided — something virtually unheard of in the Adirondack hospitality market. ABOUT THE PROPERTY
Set on the shores of a pristine Adirondack lake, this lovingly restored historic camp comprises more than a dozen cabins and cottages surrounded by towering pines. The property has a rich and storied history, and guests arrive seeking a rare combination of rustic charm and refined comfort. Amenities include waterfront access, boating, fishing, hiking, and one-of-a-kind on-site attractions. Weddings and special events are an important part of the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Guest Services & Front Desk Serve as the primary point of contact for all guests, providing warm and professional check-in, orientation, and check-out services Manage phone and email reservations, confirmations, and online booking systems Provide on-call availability for after-hours guest needs and overnight emergencies Book and coordinate weddings and special events Operations & Facilities Conduct daily tours and inspections of the physical plant and coordinate with maintenance staff on repairs and priorities Supervise housekeeping staff; oversee cabin turnover, linen management, and supply inventories Oversee caretaking staff on hours, productivity, and seasonal needs Coordinate cabin closing and spring opening preparation Bookkeeping & Financial Management Process credit card transactions, manage receivables, and enter all transactions in QuickBooks Review and pay vendor invoices; reconcile expenditures and make weekly deposits Run bi-weekly payroll reporting Monitor actual financial performance vs. budget and recommend corrective actions Assist in preparing quarterly and annual budgets Marketing & Community Relations Maintain guest prospect lists and execute regular email marketing communications Monitor booking effectiveness and share top-line responsibility for occupancy Build strong community partnerships with local businesses and organizations Gift Shop & Property Aesthetics Select, display, and manage inventory for the on-site gift shop Oversee flowers, gardens, and seasonal plantings; coordinate with grounds staff Identify décor needs and coordinate furnishing purchases with management
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Experience managing a historic inn, bed & breakfast, lodge, or comparable boutique property — a genuine passion for historic preservation and hospitality is essential Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle reservations, staff supervision, bookkeeping, and guest care simultaneously Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software; comfort with online reservation platforms A warm, professional demeanor and the instinct to anticipate guest needs Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage time effectively without close supervision Comfort living on-site in a remote, natural setting year-round Experience with special events, weddings, or group bookings is a strong plus The successful applicant will have a working knowledge of the Adirondacks, the weather, it's culture and the lifestyle of the North Country
