Job Description

The Gas Emergency Response Center (GERC) operates a 24/7 hub for managing gas distribution emergencies reported by customers, 911 Call Centers, our internal Call Center, and employees. The GERC is primarily responsible for promptly dispatching first responders (company resources and Fire Department) to Odor Calls, Damages, CO complaints and other gas incident emergencies. The position of GERC Operating General Supervisor, also known as GERC Distribution Supervisor, is a multi-faceted role that carries significant responsibility. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge and experience within the gas distribution system and will be highly self-motivated and possess demonstrated decision-making, critical thinking, and organizational skills. Required Education/Experience High School Diploma/GED and 5+ related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in Gas Operations Supervision or Associate's Degree and 4+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in Gas Operations Supervision or Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years related work experience in the operation and maintenance of a gas distribution system or equivalent operations experience Must have a minimum of 3 years experience in Gas Operations Supervision Relevant Work Experience Must have a solid understanding of the operation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and safe restoration of the Gas Distribution System, required. Required Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, external and internal customers, and support staff, required. Required Must have the ability to operate within the confines of all applicable procedures and codes and ensure that documentation associated with these procedures/codes is performed in a clear, concise, and accurate manner (e.g. 1017, PSC reporting, daily reports), required. Required Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines, required. Required Must work well under pressure and be able to assume a leadership role during system events thereby assuring a safe and efficiently operated gas distribution system, required. Required Must be able to work a rotating shift, required. Required Ability to manage multiple tasks independently and effectively; and be effective in a fast-paced and emergency environment, required. Required Sound decision making and problem-solving skills, required. Required Strong written and verbal communication skills, required. Required Gas Emergency Response Center experience, preferred. Preferred Skills and Abilities Strong written and verbal communication skills and Effective leadership skills and Well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Licenses and Certifications Driver's License Required Physical Demands Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends and holidays Additional Physical Demands Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers. Must have a valid drivers license and the ability and willingness to work and travel within the Companys service territory At times, requires working long hours in response to outage situations and shift coverage requirements Work requires sitting, walking, standing, stair climbing, completion of paperwork, using a telephone and computer and attending meetings. At times, work with computers for long periods of time during the day. Travel to other company divisions may be required Travel to other company locations to attend training may also be required Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing as required by the Department of Transportation. Must be able to read small print and symbols. Core Responsibilities Foster and uphold a safety-first, zero harm culture by demonstrating safety leadership. Enforce a commitment to the customer experience and safeguard company reputation. Encourage knowledge-sharing, diversity of thought, and inclusivity. Provide shift supervision of the Gas Service Operators to ensure dispatching activities are executed and completed in a clear, professional, safe, and efficient manner. Determine appropriate incident classification in accordance with the Gas emergency Response Plan and initiation of the Gas Outage Management System (OMS). Balance and prioritize resources effectively across concurrent emergency situations. Act as the initial Incident Commander for emergency events until the responsibility can be transferred to field supervision. Provide ongoing support to the field Incident Commander during incidents and outages. Make internal notifications, report events to the regulators as applicable, and reconcile leak log records in the companys database. Serves as the Operating Authority (OA) for the gas distribution system daily providing approval for work that could impact the system; including tie-in procedure steps, primary valve inspections, and clearance for critical valve inspections assigned for that day.
