Job Description

The Adirondack Railroad is a tourist passenger railroad headquartered in Utica, NY with direct links to the Adirondack Mountains. We provide our customers with unique experiences onboard our trains and offer them a view of the Adirondack Park that is unavailable anywhere else. The Adirondack Railroad is growing with its customers, offering a suite of passenger transportation services, private charters and special event trains. The General Manager of Operations ensures the safety and reliability of the railroad to permit safe and efficient train operations. This position is responsible for regular reporting times and may have responsibilities beyond forty hours as required by the commensurate salary. This position is required to be on property a minimum of eight hours per day and charged with the leadership of all HOS Volunteers, Operational Staff, Excelsior Railbikes staff and other reports. The successful candidate will be responsible for all operational aspects of the Adirondack Railroad including but not limited to compliance with state and federal regulations, on board services, Excelsior Railbikes and all other responsibilities as directed by the President.
Position Description:
Ensure the application of various railroad safety practices, policies and procedures. Responsible for regulatory compliance on a state and federal level. Conduct 217.9 testing on a regular basis. Responsible for On Board Services, Excelsior Railbikes, and all aspects of Train Operations. Set work priorities and objectives daily and make recommendations to the President or his Designee. Work with state (NYSDOT) and FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) inspectors, and maintain relationships Interact with train crew members and coordinate the movements of trains, on track equipment and rail bikes as needed Perform covered service functions as needed (engineer, conductor, brakeman) Ensure customer satisfaction Perform other tasks as required
Position Requirements:
10+ Years Minimum Experience in Railroad Operations required. Valid driver's license, CDL preferred People leadership High School Diploma Willingness to work outdoors in all types of weather Must pass all required facets of training Must pass a pre-employment drug test (position will be included in a random drug testing program) Must obtain Locomotive Engineer and Conductor Certifications (training provided if necessary) The Adirondack Railroad is an equal opportunity employer committed to the principles of employment equity and inclusion.
