Job Description

Position Summary The Office of Research and Innovation invites an experienced financial professional to join our team. The Senior Administrative Business Professional will support operational and financial functions for multiple units. This position will work with unit directors and key staff on department accounts; review and approve expenses; and support the ongoing operations of the assigned units. The Senior Administrative Business Professional will partner with HR and unit leadership to review operational performance, workforce planning and accurate forecasting. This individual will serve as a leader for the units where oversight is being provided. The job duties for this position are as follows: 35%: Oversee monthly account reviews to ensure all transactions are correct, charged to accurate account, documentation is on file to support the transaction, and general error corrections, distributions of expense, and cost redistributions completed as necessary. Coaching team members executing daily transactions. Grant and contract management for units including balancing contract budgets for timely completion and close-out. 30%: Review and approve expenses to ensure compliance with university policy and federal, state, and project?specific regulation, including disbursement vouchers, internal billings, purchasing card transactions and accounts payable invoices. 20%: Coordinate and lead regular meetings with unit directors, applicable staff and HR partner to review operational performance, assess resource utilization, and support accurate forecasting. Ensure teams have the information needed to make timely, strategic operational decisions. 10%: Deliver individualized and group training to unit directors and staff on operational processes, workflows, and procedural requirements. Provide guidance and clarification on departmental procedures and respond to operational inquiries. Collaborate with directors and staff to review project and research activity, assess upcoming needs, and prepare supporting materials and reports for operational planning discussions. Communicate operational updates to the MAU Budget Officer. 5%: Supervise and support staff, ensuring effective workflow management, performance development, and alignment with operational priorities. Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in a business-related field or in a field which corresponds to the particular department of employment; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; experience in a supervisory role; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Research Administration System, SAP, Business Intelligence and Power BI; excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong knowledge of MSU policies; a self-starter whose strengths include creative thinking, problem solving, and ability to work on several projects simultaneously in a face paced, deadline-oriented environment.
