The Director is an attorney-led division leadership role requiring active Texas bar membership. TheAAG V-VI
range reflects a senior assistant attorney general with supervisory responsibility and specialized subject-matter authority - appropriate for a Division director who manages a multi-disciplinary team and represents the Office on eDiscovery issues in meet-and-confer conferences and court proceedings. General description Performs advanced to highly advanced supervisory legal work, providing strategic and operational leadership over all Division functions for the Office's Civil Litigation divisions. As a licensed attorney, the Director bridges legal strategy and technology - making defensible decisions about eDiscovery scope and proportionality, overseeing privilege-review workflow design, advising on discovery disputes, and ensuring Division operations align with the legal obligations and tactical objectives of the trial teams the Division serves. Essential functions Leads and manages all Division personnel, including hiring, performance management, and professional development. Advises trial teams and Civil Litigation division chiefs on eDiscovery strategy, proportionality, and ESI-related motion practice. Oversees the Office's litigation hold and data preservation program. Designs and enforces SOPs for collection, processing, review, and production. Manages the Division's initial $750,000 salary appropriation and builds and defends subsequent-phase and outyear budget requests, including the training/certification and innovation/R D lines. Publishes and maintains the Division's Generative AI Use Policy, metric catalogue, matter cost tracking model, non-attorney career framework, intake form and SLAs, and ECA playbook. Coordinates with the Information Technology Division on infrastructure, security, and network requirements while retaining operational control of litigation-specific systems. Represents the Office on eDiscovery issues in meet-and-confer conferences and court proceedings when requested by trial counsel. Establishes QC protocols for all Division deliverables, including productions, trial presentations, and data exports. Reports on Division workload, case metrics, and resource allocation to Civil Litigation leadership per the metric catalogue. Minimum qualifications Graduation from an accredited school of law with a J.D. or equivalent degree. Active license to practice law in the State of Texas (or eligibility for immediate admission). Seven (7) or more years in the practice of law, with substantial eDiscovery or litigation support experience. Supervisory or lead experience; demonstrated ability to manage complex projects or multidisciplinary teams. Working knowledge of Relativity and eDiscovery processing/review workflows. Familiarity with FRCP (particularly Rules 26, 34, and 37(e)), TRCP, and key eDiscovery case law. Preferred qualifications Prior experience managing an in-house litigation support or eDiscovery function in a government, corporate, or large-firm setting. Prior experience appearing in court or meet-and-confer on ESI issues. CEDS (ACEDS); PMP; or equivalent credential.Similar jobs in Austin, TX
