POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day administrative, finance, and HR functions that keep Banister running smoothly. This role spans a wide range of functions including payroll, HR, accounts payable, invoicing, and supply purchasing, as well as support for accounting and financial reporting. The role can grow with the individual. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Own end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 40 employees. We use Gusto, a modern and easy-to-learn payroll system. Maintain payroll records and resolve employee pay questions promptly HR and People Administer HR processes including onboarding, offboarding, and personnel file maintenance Serve as the primary point of contact for employee questions related to policies, time off, and HR matters Update and maintain employee handbook Assist with recruiting coordination as needed, including job postings and candidate communication Benefits Administration Manage employee benefits enrollment, changes, and renewals in partnership with our benefits broker Serve as the day-to-day contact for employee benefits questions and issue resolution Track benefits eligibility and maintain accurate enrollment records and employee deductions Invoicing and Accounts Payable Generate and send customer invoices using QuickBooks Follow up on past due invoices, ensuring timely cash collection Maintain organized records of all invoices, payments, and vendor agreements Supply Purchasing Source and purchase office, facility, and general operational supplies, seeking cost-effective options Maintain purchasing records and coordinate with operations on supply needs Facilities and Office Management Maintain a clean, organized, and professional reception area and front office environment Coordinate facility maintenance, repairs, and vendor service visits Manage office equipment, supplies, and general facility needs Operations Support Oversee and coordinate outbound shipping (generally < 10 orders per week) Provide administrative support to the General Manager and management team as (for example, preparing "job folders" in advance of production) Assist with coordination of company events, meetings, and communications Accounting and Financial Reporting (Additional responsibilities, commensurate with experience, may include: Assisting with account reconciliations and data entry in QuickBooks Supporting the preparation of financial reports for management review
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience 5 or more years of experience in a comparable role, including exposure to HR, payroll, administrative, and financial responsibilities Prior experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus Systems Strong working knowledge of standard business tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and managing documents Experience with QuickBooks preferred Comfort learning new systems and tools as the business evolves Education Minimum of Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field is preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered Key Attributes Highly organized High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, particularly in payroll and financial tasks Discretion in handling sensitive employee and financial information Enthusiasm for contributing to a growing company and expanding your own responsibilities over time
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in the range of $60,000 to $80,000 annually. We offer a competitive benefits package including company-paid health insurance (subsidized for the first 2 years of employment, paid in full thereafter), generous 401k match.
