Job Description
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance and training initiatives at the Pier IX terminal. This role ensures employees are properly trained, operational activities are conducted safely and efficiently, and all regulatory and company standards are consistently met. Working closely with the Terminal Manager and other terminal leadership, this position integrates training, safety, production metrics and operational oversight across marine, rail, and truck activities to support a strong Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) culture.
Position Requirements Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee all terminal training programs, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, etc.). Identify training needs, develop curriculum, and deliver or coordinate training for new hires and existing employees, including required certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid, HAZMAT). Ensure all training is properly tracked, documented, verified and reported through the Learning Management System (LMS). Supervise and support workforce activities related to marine, rail, and truck loading/unloading operations to ensure safe and efficient material transfer. Promote and enforce Kinder Morgan's Safety, Quality, and Environmental (SQE) culture across all terminal operations. Monitor daily operations, assign work duties, and ensure production goals are achieved in alignment with safety, quality, and customer expectations. Develop, implement, and maintain site-specific procedures; support Management of Change (MOC) processes. Issue and enforce work permits and ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures. Conduct and document terminal inspections, safety meetings, and audits; ensure readiness for internal and external regulatory audits. Participate in incident investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions, particularly related to training or procedural gaps. Maintain terminal records, documentation, and SharePoint systems to ensure compliance and accessibility. Collaborate with internal teams, regulators, and customers to resolve operational, safety, and training-related issues. Motivate, coach, and develop employees while maintaining accountability to company standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Respond to emergencies and support 24/7 operational needs as required.Position Requirements:
Education & Experience:
5+ years of experience in terminal, marine, or bulk material operations (including vessel, rail, and truck handling). Minimum 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. 3-5 years of experience in EHS compliance, regulatory interpretation, and/or industrial training.Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of EHS regulations (OSHA, DOT, EPA, NFPA) and training requirements. Experience developing and delivering technical and safety training programs. Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS),Kinder Morgan SSP/JHA specifics and document control systems. Knowledge of bulk material handling, transportation methods, and terminal operations. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to engage a diverse workforce. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and related systems. Experience with technical writing and procedure development preferred.Certifications & Requirements:
Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). Successful completion of background check and drug screening.Working Conditions:
Requires work in all weather conditions, including climbing, walking, and navigating uneven surfaces. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Must be available for shift work, weekends, and emergency response as needed. Minimal overnight travel may be required.EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER STATEMENT
